Abe's Oddysee reconstructed.

Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty, a critically acclaimed restoration of Abe's Oddysee, is available for pre-order now on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux, with a 10% pre-order discount!

Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty earns the right to call itself a true remake. It's so much more than just a graphical upgrade, it's a modern retelling of the unforgettable experience that Abe's Oddysee was all these years ago. The unsettlingly beautiful visuals, the disturbingly odd universe, and the unforgivingly difficult gameplay were enough to leave a lasting impression on anyone who encountered Abe's Oddysee. Seventeen years later, Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty retains the setting, the sounds, and the flavor; all brought up to modern platforming par, and beyond, with updated controls, refined mechanics and a reconstructed experience.

If you pre-order, you'll also receive two pieces of New 'n' Tasty DLC for free:
-Bonus level: Alf's Escape
-Alternative costume: Scrub Abe

Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty makes a tremendous impression, rose-tinted glasses not required. You can pre-order it now, DRM-free on GOG.com!
Test, test....my replies hang in the waiting loop.

Edit: hmmm, so it works, but not my reply...?

realkman666: It's a deal to pay for something that is given away for free?
I understand what you're saying that yes they can extend it by 1 day, but deals by themselves are time restricted.

I did not say its a deal to pay for something given away from free, I said the deal is you're getting it for free if you pre-order
@ realkman666: because replying to your post doesn't work for some reasons.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Did you chose to ignore the third possible way deliberately, or was it just too much to read for you?

Getting ALL the stuff for even less money than the preorder price (kinda "less than free") IS an option.

It only stops being an option, if you (once again) deliberately choose to ignore that third option and INSIST on getting it for free on day one.

But to try to give you an explanation: why not see the free level and costume as kind of a "reward" to those buyers, that trust the devs enough, to buy without waiting for reviews first.

You know - the trust, that you obviously don't have/ are not willing to show.

So, there's no need to "reward" you - since you don't take the risk of getting disappointed in the first place.

PS: but why am I bothering? You don't want to read facts - you just want to troll. And I prefer not to feed trolls.

Yes, they can decide how long the deal is indeed.
Hurm, I'm a lot more ambivalent about this release than I should be. I really love the Oddworld games (and can we get Munch's Oddysee here one day?). The regional pricing puts me off, as does the DLC (though at least it's not exclusive to pre-orders). I understand that the DLC is being treated separately because it came out later that the game's initial release, but why not just debut it here as the Complete version with the DLC already rolled in. Lots of other games do that, though admittedly they tend to be older releases (such as the Paradox titles we just got here).

In all likelihood I will get this one day, but my pre-order ardour seems to be dampened at the moment.

You should always call people trolls first so they know not to waste time having a conversation with you. Why would my blind trust be rewarded in the first place? If they know their game is good, they have nothing to fear from day-one reviews. I have zero trust, and I have no reason nor incentive to have any trust. In fact, I'm almost certain that the game is fine, but that doesn't stop me from questioning the practice, because this is not about trust, nor about faith. This is about motivation, and I'm still waiting to hear the motivation behind this odd decision.
Abe's Odyssey is the reason why I registered a Steam account, and once I discovered GOG I bought it here as well (together with Exodus).
I'm really exited to see New 'n Tasty released here and I'm definitely looking forward to playing it.
Also I appreciate a lot the fact that the developers took their time to post on this thread, keeping an informative and really polite attitude despite receiving a lukewarm welcome. +1 to you guys!

Personally I've held the belief that GOG cannot take on all of the game industry's awful practices and still be a thriving and growing business. I myself got a Bachelor's in CS with an emphasis in game programming but decided to go into software because I dislike the industry's practices.

I know that since I live in the US my opinion is automatically irrelevant in terms of regional pricing and I understand it's not fair, but personally I would rather have DLC, pre-orders, pre-order bonuses, etc here on GOG if that means the game goes DRM free on GOG, because that's the most important value to me.

I am a pragmatist and don't believe that GOG is either capable of nor obligated to oppose every change in the gaming landscape. I too value DRM-free first, and understand that GOG will bring the games here that it can under whatever terms they can agree with, within a reasonable framework. So I am not lashing out at GOG. Rather, I am exercising my right as a consumer to withhold purchasing because the terms do not presently appeal to me. Be assured that I am not calling for a boycott, nor demanding that GOG withdraw this offer. I am merely stating why I personally am choosing not to partake of it at this time.

I am also expressing my disappointment, hopefully within earshot of the publisher since they have posted in this thread. I want them to understand that their decisions have turned a sure-thing day-one purchase for me into something I will probably now wait for a sale on. Again, I understand market realities, but at the same time I believe feedback from consumers helps them make practical decisions in future.

As will I. Even with regional pricing and pre-orders. I want it that much. :)
