Grim Fandango resurrected.

Grim Fandango Remastered marks the return of gaming's most recognisable, and notoriously unavailable, cult classic - now on Windows, Mac, and Linux. This upcoming release got everybody so excited, Tim Schafer even prepared a special trailer all about how you can pre-order Grim Fandango Remastered (and why that’s a fine idea) right now, exclusively on GOG.com for the first week!

Grim Fandango is by far the single most wishlisted game by the GOG.com community with an overwhelming 45,000 votes. It's a unique blend of Mexican folklore with film noir stylings, and has been critically praised for its art direction, writing, and memorable characters.

Grim Fandango Remastered refreshes, refines, and remasters the award winning title and Tim Schafer's last hurrah as LucasArts' adventure-gaming-extraordinaire. The remaster modernizes the game's presentation and gameplay with completely repainted textures, widescreen support, and quite possibly best of all: modern controls. You can now say goodbye to unwieldy tank controls, a staple of the early 3D era, and enjoy a fully point-and-click interface - but only if you want! The option to play the game as originally envisioned is always there.

Have you missed Grim Fandango the first time around? Now's your chance to experience gaming history like never before, or if you have played it in its heyday - you're probably long overdue for another go anyway. You can pre-order Grim Fandango Remastered right now on GOG.com!
The pre-order will last until Tuesday, January 27, when the game is expected to launch on GOG.com.

It took a lot to bring this classic back to life. If you’d like to learn more about the remaster, Double Fine and 2 Player Productions have just released the newest episode of The Making of Grim Fandango Remastered - a recommended watch.

EPurpl3: Nice, Grim Fandango, and even better, Day of the Tentacles soon (but was not announced on GOG, probably it will be on Steam only) , finally someone who listen to its fans. On the other side Double Fine has not released anything good since 2009 (Brutal Legend) so why not a remake? or why not 2 or 3 or even more, we can never know, maybe until they will have more inspiration again :)).

Anyway, i buy them all >:)).
So I gather you've played Broken Age part 1 and it wasn't any good? Odd I've seen very good reviews for their Costume Quest games. Or is it a subjective type of thing where someone people like them and some don't and the new games haven't been "Metal" enough for you "Brutal Legend" ;P
This game has been community wishlisted since GOG started and now that it's coming out we still get people whinging about "Neuurgh! I prefer the clunky original?" or "Neuurgh! is it coming out on ShitSteam?" or other such nonsense. I can just imagine these people marking it down when the reviews go up.

I'm glad that they decided to remaster and re-orchestrate it. It needed to be updated in that way before a release. That's a bonus in my opinion. A pleasant surprise I didn't expect.

And anyone who DOESN'T like this game (whether original or remastered) knows absolutely fuck all about games, and should piss off to ShitSteam where they belong. It was a classic that all others are measured by. As for those that are waiting for it to be on ShitSteam. Well, as Tim himself says at the end:

"It's DRM free, because love is for the living, and copy protection is for suckers."

Wise words :)

Boils the blood reading some of the replies. It's ok if they want DRM, but don't ever drag me down with them.
Only 2 out of 65 want it fanatically on ssteam so i guess it's ok.

I usually avoid pre-orders, but I'll make an exception for this, given that it's coming out in just a couple of weeks and I've been interested in snagging it for years. Nice job GOG, Tim, and Double Fine!
Finally here! Thanks GoG and DF! One of the best games ever imo!

Matruchus: Yes it seems that gog arbitrarly renamed Grim Fandango to Grim Fandango Remastered in the wishlist and as such removed it from there. Bad practice that is. Its funny thought that nobody noticed this since October :)

HypersomniacLive: I don't think it's just a change of the title, going through the comments makes me think that GOG merged the two wishlist entries. Not that it makes it any better, but it's not exactly the same.
Well, original and remastered HD are IMHO two very different versions which should not be mixed in wishlists - difference in number of votes was significant, and there was a reason for it...
Saying that, I'm very glad we have DRM-free remastered version here at least, because it looks like all efforts in bringing true original version ended here...

Yeah gog just made an addition in the wish for Grim Fandango Remastered explaining that they have no access to the original version and won't be trying anymore to bring it here since the remastered version is here which enables users to kind off switch to the old visuals inside the game. From their viewpoint the wishes for original and remastered have been fulfilled basically making the whole community wishlist pointless.

Grim Fandango, Remastered, DRM-free and avaliable for Linux? I think I will faint. But I'll order before that happens, just in case.
Delightful surprise, and if I had money this month i'd be preordering but alas, i'll have to wait till feb to buy it.
But i've been wanted to replay for years now, just getting it to work on a modern pc is next to impossible (the elevator puzzle anyone? arghhhh) so a version that'll actually run on modern technology is wonderful news . Doing it up a bit is a pleasant extra.

I cannot wait.

thanks for pointing it out. in my opinion, the explanation can be justified if no one would indeed have reason to play the original after having the remastered version. Something time will tell I guess.

Maybe there is the possibility for the classic version coming either bundled or as a seperate purchase.

Similar things were happening with Spelunky (freeware version though), Wings and X-Wing/Tie-Fighter.

I believe that worrying in any form is quite useless, considering that GOG often does care about these things.

If this version plays absolutely fine, there will be absolutely no need for the original. If people are that desperate for it I'm sure they can go buy the original disc copy like I did.
My only instant buy in many Years. :-)
