Adding Linux support to Desperados 1 so long after the fact was greatly appreciated, as well as the excellent Linux support for Shadow Tactics from day 1, so I hope us Linux users made it worth your while and that there'll be a good chance for Linux support here as well, even if it looks like it won't be there right from the start.
vv221: The badges add nice incentives to try different challenges on a same map. I have a lot of fun trying to get the three major ones for each map in the highest difficulty, now that I already completed the game in the default difficulty.
Anther nice thing about them is that they are not in your face, do not lock content behind them, and are not shared with your relatives. So you can ignore them without missing out on anything.
Hear, hear! I tend to play every map at least once with the self-imposed goal of don't kill anyone, and another time with the goal of "kill everyone without raising any alarm", and the badges really help with just taking a fresh look at the map.
Also, as I just completed my first speedrun badge yesterday (on my first attempt to do so even, with a whopping 40 seconds to spare), I suspect that they're not all that impossible to acquire. At least on the map that I did, it was mostly about intuiting the swiftest path where I could ignore the most obstacles, and juggling as few characters as possible, but giving the right orders to have them in position already when I needed the others to be present. I could easily afford a couple of misclicks and imperfect timing, so I have good hope the same goes on the other maps.
