This year is the first time XP does not show in the Steam hardware survey. Linux accounts for 0.8% of the user base...
I believe that is because the Steam client will no longer run on XP and Vista.


More fun facts.
Valve will happily sell you games that don't work properly on operating systems still supported by steam.

Take Fallout 3 for example. Recommended is XP/Vista and there is a prominent notice warning against playing it on Windows 7 or later.


Personally, I'd be happy so long as the offline installers still support legacy systems, that shouldn't really be connected to the internet.
