Hello everyone, I'm Phil and a huge GOG.com fan and quite involved in anything to do with older PC games.

I've started a new series on my YouTube channel, covering GOG.com games and showing you how to improve the graphics, sound and other aspects of the game.

I'm not much of a game reviewer, so my videos focus on the technical aspects rather than game-play aspects.

I've only covered two games so far, but planning on adding a new gamer every week or so. The tweaks are very similar from game to game, so once you know how to tweak DOSBox you can apply this to a lot of other games. For the beginning I will cover mostly DOSBox games but might also do a few early Windows games depending on how things go.

The tweaks focus on having an aspect ratio correct full screen image and good audio quality. As many games use some form of MIDI, I will cover using Roland MT-32 as well as General MIDI soundfonts as well.

Doom Tweak Guide

Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis

Medal Of Honour Allied Assault Warchest

Quake: The Offering Tweak Guide

Sam & Max Hit the Road

Space Quest and Space Quest II

Space Quest III

Space Quest IV

Space Quest V

Star Trek 25th Anniversary

Strike Commander

System Shock

Tomb Raider

Wing Commander

Wing Commander II

Wing Commander III

Wing Commander Privateer

Star Wars Tie Fighter (1995)

Star Wars X-Wing (1994)

I would love for you to do this for shogo MAD on Windows 8.1 ;-)

Or I know that HoMM 4 struggles sometimes too on higher resolutions
Subbed, looking forward to watching through your videos.
I don't have the Space Quest games but I appreciate the effort put into these videos. +1

Early Windows 9x 3D games are a pain to get going :)

And DOSBox at higher resolutions can be very demanding. That goes for playing them on real retro PCs as well.

Seen one of your, how to's and it was very good.I'm sure people of the forum will benefit from your video's...
Great work! I appreciate the effort you put into these. I thought the games shipped with optimal dosbox settings already on GOG. I guess I was wrong. :p

New subscriber here. Looking forward to see which games you'll cover next.
Thanks guys :)

Pretty much all DOSBox games need some tweaking. Now there is a graphics setup utility, but it "jumbles up" the config file. So it makes editing of the config file nearly impossible.

That's why I just go straight to editing it with notepad.

You can circumvent this formatting problem by using something like notepad++. I recently started using it because ScummVM's .ini files suffer from the exact same issue. Works really well.

Ahh, that's good to know, thank you :)
Nice work Phil!

I would subscribe if i had a youtube account but know that i'll look after your channel from time to time to look your new videos! Cheers!
No worries :)

I've updated the first post with another game: Tomb Raider.

Tomb Raider GOG.com Tech Review and Tweak Guide

This game gave me lots of issues under Windows 8.1 with Nvidia grahics, but the tweaks are quite easy and after that the game looks very good, even better than on a real retro DOS Gaming PC.

You sound like you've lived in Australia for many years, but weren't born there. Am I right? My apologies if I'm completely wrong ;)

With my mother getting a new PC soon (win8) and being a big fan of the Tomb Raider games I can see this one being something I will need. I have subed in case I find a game having problems and you might have gotten to it!

Really good idea. Keep up the good work!
