It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

ShadowWalker56: My PC had a virus so I lost everything including my bookmarks.
I highly recommend downloading a Linux operating system. You can back-up your files and access them without a risk if you boot Linux from USB for example.

I also recommend using the add-on NoScript if you use Firefox because that will reduce the risk of getting a virus.

MSE has lowest detection rate on the market, way below minimum of protection.
ShadowWalker56 asked about antivirus, not some fancy flat tiles to watch in spare time.

mike_cesara: Avira - get offline installer (216MB)
I wouldn't recommend MSE.

darthspudius: ???
Yeah, it's been unreliable for a while now. I recently got my second ever virus. I hadn't gotten one since the late 90s.
Couldn't see anyone who actually answered your question there. In bg1 you export your character, its a button on the character screen, then import it to bg2 at character creation. However I would advise you to look into tutu, trilogy or big world setup and play both in bg2 engine. I use Norton and it is ok.

ShadowWalker56: Funny.

darthspudius: lol well I haven't caught a virus in years, I'm curious to know which site it was.
Then again, depending on what it is trying to achieve, malware doesn't necessarily advertise its existence to you. It usually wants you to think you're clean.

I have no idea how many times I've been hit by malware and whether any of my current PCs have such (maybe not), but once I've had ransomware which obviously made itself known. It was one of those claiming to be antivirus software and claiming my PC is infected, and that I should buy their $100 scanner to get rid of it.

I didn't fall for it but googled for it ("Security Sphere 2013" or somesuch) and I found quite complicated instructions on how to get rid of it. Damn it was hard, do this do that. Normal virus scanners or Malwarebytes or even booting with the Kaspersky Rescue CD (to make sure the malware isn't in the memory while running a virusscanner) could do jack shit against it, and Avira Antivirus had been active all the time, yet the machine had gotten infected.

I have no idea where we got it. My wife noticed the malware first so I am unsure if she had caused the infection, visiting some porn site or trying to buy a new husband online.

Again, I recommend CCleaner! There was actually a time where that was all I used, without even MSE, and it kept me virus free with no anti-virus software for many years.

CCleaner will not remove any rogues, ransomwares, backdoors, keyloggers, rootkits and bootkits.  It's a "cleaning" tool that removes temporary files, purges the browsers' cache, history, sessions and cookies, and fixes errors in the registry.  It's an extremely helpful application (which I personally use), but it's not enough to ensure a proper protection.  It will never replace a good antivirus / antimalware.

I highly suggest you to download and install MalwareBytes, it's one of the best antimalwares, it's free and it will not interfere with your current antivirus.  Other useful applications are AdwCleaner, Kaspersky TDSSKiller and Dr.Web CureIt.  For power users, there are also MBRCheck and Combofix, but you need to be very careful when you use them!  For safe browsing, AdBlock Plus and NoScript are very helpful, as well as checking URLs with VirusTotal before visiting obscure websites.  One of the best antiviruses is the common sense!

I'm not recommending MSE, it's one of the weakest antiviruses.  Avira Free Antivirus is a better choice, as long as you uncheck all their offers (Avira SafeSearch, Avira SearchFree, etc).  If you're willing to pay, I strongly recommend ESET Nod32 Antivirus, which is lightweight, reliable and fast, and offered in 32 and 64 bit versions.  It can be installed on older computers without slowing them down.
