Hi people, ive got the Age of Wonder III game as a freebie from PC Gamer, registered the code, downloaded the game, registered Triumph Account thingy, but it wont let me play, if it does its only in offline mode, keeps asking me to register my game, which Ive already done, unless there is another code which I need.

Go to your account page here:
https://www.gog.com/account

Select the game, then near the top of the card that drops down select More, and then Serial Keys to get your code.

Are you sure it's a GOG code? Usually these giveaways are Steam codes. I'd try downloading Steam if you don't have it, then click "Add A Game" then "Activate a product on Steam" then use your code.

Going by the results of a quick search, it should, indeed, be a Steam key.
