It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).

I was finally able to pay. I thought PayPal would require my bank account to be attached, because I know a PayPal account has required that during the past few years, but I discovered that PayPal has a "Guest Checkout" option that allows people to pay without logging into an account. The "PayPal Guest Checkout" option worked immediately.

I wonder why PayPal accepted my debit card while GOG hates it.

Braggadar: So... you don't want me to float any ideas to help with your problem, you just want to bash at GOG...
I don't wish to sound ungrateful, but I know what the problem is and your posts aren't that relevant. As I said, I've been able to place orders 9 times this year - but I did also receive the same error claiming (falsely) that there was a bank problem. When I changed IP address to a different Tor exit node, the same order worked. So there's clearly IP-address based blocking going on, and it has now reached the point where any node I use is similarly blocked.

I had this problem back in 2016 and GOG were able to "fix" it (by whitelisting my card). It's disappointing to see the same problem arise (and affecting others also) but just because things work for you doesn't mean that everyone else's configuration is at fault.
Sorry for the delayed post but managed to find out the (or possibly just one of many) problem. It seems Ayden is now using Google (specifically pay.google.com) and since I had blacklisted Google (for long-standing privacy reasons) I had to unblock that domain.

Having Google being able to snoop on my GOG transaction history again is not a positive step, so I will probably put a brake on future purchases.

I don't hold with Google collecting data either. Privacy concerns indeed.

I use PaySafeCard to pay with.
I'm also behind a VPN.
With a non-blink engine powered browser using quite a few addons to that effect.
DecentralEyes, Disconnect, HTTPS Always, Pure URL, and uBlock.

So you can still support DRM-free games with offline installers while telling GOG you don't approve of Google/Twitter/Facebook, etc.

Interestingly, GOG don't always offer PaySafeCard as a choice (when I last checked out, the options were Credit Card, Webmoney, Skrill and Paypal) so I'm guessing that appears only if you have a European IP address (I use Tor normally).

A cash-based card (like PaySafe) and a VPN should offer pretty much the highest level of privacy. But with Google involved in the payment process, they can still collect order details and correlate them to a browser fingerprint which might then be enough for them to link it with all the other data they collect - YouTube activity, ReCAPTCHA usage, Blogger sites visited plus any Google Analytics/advertising tracking. Blocking the last is straightforward, but the other stuff involves far more usability/website access compromises.

I do have a European IP, true.

There are also addons one can use to circumvent browser fingerprints, like Secret Agent.
Together with addons removing all cookies not on the authorized list..Like Cookies Exterminator.
