I thought that buying a 'package' was to get a discount, Like EBay or the Supermarket. But I find it is just an additive purchase, i.e., single game $9.99, 3-game series package, $29.97 ($9.99 x 3) Why would a person by 3 at once if they can always buy them one at a time as they finish one, buy the next, rather than be out of pocket for 3 at one time, if there is no financial incentive to do so? Why do they even have 'packages', without some sort of incentive? They could offer even a dollar off for a package 'deal'. Very curious.
For example? I ask because I see many times on GOG where the price is reduced on a series rather than a single installment.

What package deals are you talking about? If you mean BYOB's available in the sale, you need to buy (or own) the number of games specified in each BYOD page to get bigger discount. For example in Kalypso BYOD you need to buy (or own) 7 games from the bunlde to get better discount. If you own say 4 already, you only have to buy 3 more to get the better discount.

Possibility 1) Their method of payment charges something per transaction. So 1 transaction is actually cheaper than 3.
Possibility 2) Some time ago, my bank would automatically decline any payment lower than €2. So if there were 3 games that cost €1.49 each, and a package deal that cost €4.49, I would have had to buy the package deal, even if it was €0.02 cheaper.
Possibility 3) Some people want to get the full set at once instead of buying it piecemeal.
People assume that packaged deals will contain a discount. I saw at a restaurant yesterday that they have a $3.99 deal for a slice of pizza and a drink. Or it's $7.99 for two slices of pizza and a drink. So, you could save a penny and have two slices and two drinks rather than just one drink by getting the $3.99 deal twice. There is no reason anyone should ever order the $7.99 deal. But it probably happens all the time.

Don't you get free refills anyway? Or has this practice being stopped?

Depends on the pizza place.

Really? :O
Every time I was over and the places I've been too were having free refills. But if it really depends on the place, maybe I was just lucky ;)

This happened to me at Burger king a few months ago. I was getting my kids a 20 piece chicken nugget and it was something like $5. But the 10 piece is $1.49. So I told her it was cheaper to get 2 tens, but she somehow didn't understand it. She was saying how 20 for 5 was still a good deal. But I kept saying not as good as 20 for 3.

Walmart often has a bit 2 for a penny more deal, too.

You let your kids eat at Burger King? Jesus, why don't you just hand feed them arsenic?

Cause buying Burger King raises fewer eyebrows than buying a substantial quantity of arsenic? Not to mention that it might be cheaper....

I think that was just their mental training showing.

Once when I was over I went to a McDonalds, got in line, I was asked the same usual question. So I ordered: Large fries, and you can guess what she asked me next, yep, your were right: Do you want to have fries with it?

I didn't know if I shall cry, shout or what? But she realised her mistake after this awkward silence and checking on her little computer, turned red and got me my fries ;)

...Actually, I would never have guessed that she would've asked that. =P

Yeah that were special ones, really special ones and a one time offer only. Did you miss that sale?
