They might be drawing continuously without needing to. This can tax the GPU. So it can be because of poor optimization.

Once it is running there is a second icon in the taskbar called rivatuner, there you can set the framerate.

You can limit the CPU with a windows power plan. I have one of those for Eador: Genesis, it does not run properly with full CPU.Power settings can be linked to the desktop and activated with 3 or 4 clicks.
