I just want to let GOG know that I dislike that they 'update' some games without keeping
the original versions of a game..

The thing is, each time GOG 'updates', using a new version of C++ or Visual Basic or whatever,
they also disable the ability to run a game as WAS...
Meaning that people, like me, get errors they didn't get before, based on the 'renewed' version of
such compilers..

I like GOG, I really do, but quit ''updating', without keeping the orignal version availbale for download..
I do not wish to update my OS to 'fit' my software..

Now I'm forced yet again to download from questionable sites or torrents, just to run a game I bought on here..
If you wanna update something it's fine as long as you also keep the originals available..

I'd add a poll on this if I could, but that's not possible..
So, instead if anyone's gonna reply to this, besides the usual lesser informational replies,
start with a "YAY" or "NAY", then say what you have to about this...

Thanx..

YAY..

Basically It's like buying a car, and then the guys who sold are saying "Sure we got an improvement",
and they start installing the 'brand new engine' and such, and then they say "Alrighty then,
it's all fixed, brand spanking new" and you got to the freeway, and the car just won't go..
It ran before, now it does no longer..
Then when asked "What did you change ?" they say "oh sorry, you need another update by
some other dealer as well, in order to make it run again.."

And then you can go "wtf ?!? it was running alright before... "
And then it's like you need to spend another $100 to just make it work again ?!?..

That is NOT good..

(and peeve on the guys that'll start "update ur OS.." banter.....)

NOTE; If you got an actual imrpovement, use the version of C++ or Visual basic to recompile..
not the Microsoft-sure-to-purposefully-fail-ever-running-it-again-on-the-old-OS version..
(I think newer versions of compilers are built to avoid their usefulness on older OS's..)

If you are using Galaxy you can tell it to not update games automatically.

Another thing to keep in mind, never get rid of your install files for just the reason you mentioned. That way if the new one craps out on you, you have the ability to install the previous version.

I have a hard drive just for the storage of the GOG installers that I download and do not get rid of the old installers until I know the newer one is no0t going to mess with my game.
Oh well...yeah..

But don't you think it makes more sense to keep the games as is versions as well as the updated versions ?

I mean the updated ones run on Windows 7 and such,

but the original versions are sure to run like they did before..

And I have more software that requires windows XP to run optimal..

Also...

You didn't start with "YAY" or ""NAY"...

YAY

Yes would be nice to have a version repository, I was just letting you know what I do.

If I remember correctly, someone on the forums had a way to get versioned downloads. I am not totally sure though.
I also find it annoying that Galaxy is included in some of the newer installers, and it was installed on my system without asking me. Not to mention there were missing DLL's it was complaining about so it probably wouldn't even work.

I do wish previous versions could still be downloaded. Including the ones that had all the games in a single download (Like Might & Magic 1-6) instead of individual installers.
There's a couple different wishlist items if folks want to add their votes:
