nightcraw1er.488: Nope, don't care what its a <insert what you want to call it>. The options are - Share on scoial medai, visit galaxy, use two step authentication. None of these I am ever going to do, nor do I have any interest any further in that deal.

PaterAlf: And none of it you have to do to get the XP. Just click the share button on the main page and you'll get the XP for it. No matter if you even have a Facebook account. And you only have to visit the two-factor authentification site in your account. You don't have to enable the feature to get the XP.
Slick! I'd already found that just clicking the badge descriptions for the 2 way authentication and gog galaxy page would yield the badge, but I hadn't tried clicking the FB button yet.

All badges collected except the Daily Check in, and that's only because I can't fast forward and rewind time.

Before you find a new store, you should be aware about

all you have to do is click the Share link at the top of the page and the badge unlocks.

Don't tells the blues. ;)

We know. ;)
Sharing the sale helps us out, but we're okay with that little loophole.
Anyway, the fact that you prefer not to use anything on the site but the checkout and download screen, doesn't say It shouldn't offer anything else. Similarly you could say sales themselves are a distraction from the main aim... not to mention the forums.

nightcraw1er.488: I realise that I am fighting a losing fight here. I joined this store as it offered the ability to purchase a game on the storefront and download via browser, and then disconnect. That is it the sole point of buying here. Every month that point is now being eroded away in favour of becoming more steam like. Time to find a new store.
I don't really have a dog in this fight, but the galaxy client is still completely optional. It's your choice if you want a free game or not. Want the free game? Install the client. Don't want the client? Don't install the game. It's still a mercantile transaction, and if you don't find that the value of the game is worth what they ask for it, you can freely decline to participate. No one's holding a gun to your head.

It works indeed..

And there is nothing at all stopping you from still doing that. All of the games are still available for you to buy via the normal methods. They are all still able to be downloaded by your browser. None of them require a connection after download. I'm at a loss as to what your issue is here? That you aren't able to get a discount because you don't want to follow instructions to get the discount? There's nothing making you install Galaxy, just that you get a freebie if you do. If you want System Shock 2 that badly, guess what - you can still buy it outside Galaxy as normal. There is no 'forcing' happening here, it's all in your mind.
I already own System Shock 2, but I thought: 'Eh, I'll help the stress test by downloading Galaxy, get the code and then send it to the Community Wishlist or something like that'. But... I couldn't even install Galaxy, it just freezes mid-install.

Honestly, GOG, you need an intervention. I love your website, I love the DRM-Freedom of your games, this sale is really cool, but the Galaxy client is a total piece of crap and I'm not touching it anymore.

You can't ask people to install a broken piece of software on their PC.

zeogold: Is it really that hard to just install and uninstall it?
It is, if you're on Linux.

nightcraw1er.488: Looking at the sale page, feebie is only for Galaxy users, nice! So much for the options eh?
You know, giving away games is optional for GOG, right? They don't have to give away anything. If they want to tie it to galaxy, that's entirely their prerogative.

popperik: It is kinda discriminating against Linux users, though...
It's kind of discriminating against both Linux uses and Mac users. Worse for Mac users - the game being given away is actually available for Mac, but galaxy isn't.
avatar
zeogold: Um.....yes? Please? O_o
I mean, if you're offering, I would most readily and completely accept, assuming it's legal.
What reasonable person WOULDN'T want that? o_O

nightcraw1er.488: try pirate bay or one of those, there is hundreds of those files. True, you computer will likely lock up after using it, but hell its free isn't it.

SS2 is perfectly playable on Wine on Linux. Steam already provides it bottled and ready to drink.
Linux user here.
I have no problem getting all badges, earn 3100 XP for free now.

I have already own System Shock 2, so I am not using GOG Galaxy.
I believe GOG Galaxy work fine with wine. :-)
I already own System Shock 2 so I'm not sure if this actually works but at least the text on the button changes from "Get GOG Galaxy" to "Claim your copy" when you visit https://embed.gog.com
That's the page Galaxy loads in its browser.

Really, is there anyone that doesn't have System Shock 2 anyway? Most overrated game of all time in any case IMHO. A future where they can make starships, but not guns that shoot for more than 15 minutes without falling apart. Which makes no difference because though some smart cookie put them guns on the starship, some other dumb fucker apparently forgot to put the ammo on board. Though the infinitely respawning enemies seem to be able to find ammo enough.

My most hated game of all time for free, I wouldn't wish it upon anyone.

Konrad: Just to be clear: the stress-test giveaway is for Galaxy users. But that's kind of necessary for us to get the amount of traffic we need to be a legit stress test. The regular freebies don't require Galaxy. :)
Can I still play IF i already own System shock II

nightcraw1er.488: Yes. Would you like me to send you a file that you only need to install to get a free game? It is billed as an "optional" client, the word optional means:
You can buy and download the game just fine. The client is still optional. That's a route open to you should you really not want to install Galaxy - you are not barred from this.

You get the game for free if you - at least pretend to - participate in the Galaxy stress test; note it's Galaxy specific, not a stress test for the whole page. Which is your alternative mode of 'payment' at the moment so to speak. That's why it is free, for a limited time. They are just lenient in that they don't force you to go through with actually downloading it straight away if you don't want to.
