I do not use it as a mere downloader (but I do it when needed) but I always defended Galaxy as a some kind GOGDownloader if used in that way.
But let's be realistic, a pretty big downloader, you now, for a client it is fine for me, but Putting me in the place of some critics, for a proper Galaxy Downloader only it should be lighter, less resourceness, faster and portable. And technical discrepancies aside, you now what? Those requirements would be very convenient for me as well.

That's a good thing IMO - because it probably means "things will stay as they are". Porsche doesn't state "we'll build some cars" in their mission statements. It's a given.

Well it also means they don't plan to invest more into GOG as storefront and community - which in my opinion is a mistake. With some serious PR (like the now pegged out FCKDRM initiative) it could have been a serious player - of course that would have meant stepping on some toes, which they probably didn't want. It's like they became afraid of their own courage at some point...

I do think GOG desperately needs more funding which is more unlikely with the botched CP77 release now. It sold pretty well, even broke all pre-order records (do they still stand netto after all the refunds?), but will continue to cost for a while if CDPR wants their reputation as a top-notch developer back*.
GOG really needs to fix their site, but that requires talent on a level that cannot be had at Polish wages I guess. Just look at this forum - I kind of like it with all its quirks and fuck-ups (and I use Adalia's and Barefoot's userscripts to make it bearable). But to someone new here it must look like disgrace. A relic from the bronze age of the internet. And it's not exactly rocket science to build and maintain a forum nowadays, even for large audiences.
The crux is, all of that would have to be done before launching a new marketing campaign which could get GOG, with their unique DRM-free approach to the next level. Embarrassing to promote something as groundbreaking that breaks if you attach an image with upper-case ending... And all that would be some serious investment website and promotion - which IMO would pay off in the (not even so) long run.
For now it seems like GOG as a site and store will just slog along as they always have. And that's what "no announcements" probably means.
Galaxy is of course an important project - for the investors and shareholders. I do see what they hope to gain from it, but I think they are putting all their eggs in one basket here. And it's not the most sturdy one. I'm in gaming since 1988, I'm a professional developer for more than 20 years and I think do have a feeling when people and companies get stuck and obsesses with an idée fixe. "This is the feature everybody has been waiting for!". Been there, done that, made the same mistakes, even had a blast bringing it to life. The companies are long gone. Fingers crossed it doesn't go this way here.



*much of the hate for CP77 comes from completely overblown expectations though. I've played it, all TES games were more broken at release, sometimes even after several, even "final" patches, and it's really a good game - just not the next level after Witcher 3, which is kind of sad.

For what its worth I'm currently patching 23 titles to my offline archive, update flags are working as expected, files are serving appropriately at max speed. As for new titles downloading I'm grabbing the complete content from 17 new titles I've bought since my last manifest sync to GOG's servers.... 331GB in-route to my SAN at the moment <3

I see no indication offline will ever stop working in anyway. Even if it did there are automated ways to generate offline installers based on Galaxy "all-in-one" installer style.

No need to worry, GOG will keep us covered, they know what we want and offline only takes time to generate from galaxy content if devs get persnickety. That said patches may go away and full archive updates may become the new norm.

If todays -13% (EUR) share price ( https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/7CD.SG?p=7CD.SG )is any indication: Shareholders didnt like the presentation. Dont know what the reason/s is/are - just saying "online online online" doesnt seem to make a good impression though.
Share price today was (far as I can tell from the chart on the linked site) the lowest since first half of 2019.

Another little thing I noticed: There is the statement "Clear strategic goals" on the last page but are any of those "clear strategic goals" actually made clear in that presentation?

I mean, I have a gaming PC so Galaxy is not "heavy" or demanding in the slightest. If you have an old laptop and are trying to play King's Quest on it though, then I could see that being an issue.

Well, yes, I have a mediocre laptop, but it is useful to test if a launcher is very heavy or not. A launcher needs to be a launcher and not more. Any piece of crap should be able to run it. It is a tool to run a game etc...

For example, Steam is fast and light. Obviously it does not have to deal with different plugins and it is tested until the nausea for years etc. But the comparison in loading times and performance is abismal.
Galaxy is more modern. But in the end both offer the same, the difference is that Galaxy for now is more resourceful, slow and laggy. Of course I am judging it under low to medium computers. My idea is that it should not be in that way. Ok, probably a bit more demanding but not so much.

That is the reason why I say it could be too much for a basic downloader. something like killing fles with a cannon.

I really can't speak to the performance on an old laptop, so I'll take your word for it. I was just telling the guy Galaxy has uses outside the social aspects, like being a way better way to download offline installers and extras on a decent PC.

I have read all the answers and my impression is that many of the answers fall into one of the two following categories:
a) We are not telling you.
b) We dont know yet.

I think this at least partially explains the poor reception by the market/shareholders.
