Hi, I'm wondering what's GoG's position on non-English games.

Does GoG sell any old games that don't have an English translation?
Is it worth it to ask for such games on the Community Wishlist?

It's a shame that a lot of old games will be lost in time, because no online store will ever sell them :'(

Steam sells quite few games without English in them, mostly old Japanese titles. But I don't think GOG really has the market share or the clout needed to get the sold here, most come from once big 80's/90's Japanese developers who have fallen on hard time.

I once asked them and got the answer that every game needs an English version. The only exception would be games that they could add as a bonus goodie (I think there is at least one game that has a Polish-only bonus goodie) for another game.

Publishers could always pass their game through Google translate, but GOG's curation would probably forbid it.

I haven't seen anything with an illiteracy level approaching Zero Wing.

All games sold on GOG.COM Store need to offer an English version. If that's not possible, we could try to add a certain game as a bonus goodie to another, related title. Most probably both would have to come from the same publisher. We did something like that in the past with a few games that never got translated to English but have been close to our hearts.

Would GOG ever consider getting into the translation game, if not doing it all in house, at least bringing in a third party to do it? That might be an untapped market for you that's worth considering. Identify great games without English translations, acquire them (or work out exclusivity deals) and translate them to bring them to a larger audience.

Imagine the reaction of the average customer: "Oh, this is one of the translated exclusives, which originally never had the English version. It must be a good hipster game." Nah, I don't think so.
