I was having trouble making this old game work on my Windows 7 (64 bit) PC. Any mention on the Internet of this game running on "modern" operating systems would always link to or just copy the text from this old outdated GOG thread:
https://www.gog.com/forum/general_archive/windows_7_and_nocturne/page1

That thread is archived and I can't bump it up, so I am creating this new thread, so maybe search engines will show it instead of that old outdated thread to people that search for a fix.

The game wouldn't even want to launch on my PC and the solution is very simple; use dgVoodoo 2.
Then the game would crash after loading a level with a DirectX error and the solution was again very simple; install the latest patch.

I have created a page on PC Gaming Wiki with all the links and instructions:
https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Nocturne

Only "issue" left is that the intro video isn't being rendered, but you can simply skip it and watch it using VLC media player or something else. The memory warnings can also be skipped, or use Windows 98 compatibility mode if you wish.

You can also use dgVoodoo to enable antialiasing and anisotropic filtering. You can also enable bilinear filtering which makes the pre-rendered backgrounds less pixelated. Another thing that could be useful for some people is using dgVoodoo to increase color saturation, since the game is very gray-ish and often lacks color.

Alone In The Dark The New Nightmare and the Blair Witch games use the same engine as this game, so if you are having trouble with those or you want to enable some of the mentioned improvements you can try it out.

Also it would be useful if someone would confirm this working on Windows 10, since I don't use it. Even if you don't have the game, you can simply try running the demo (links are in the PC Gaming Wiki page).
Thank you!

Didn't use your manual method, but: couldn't find my disc copy so I used a pre-setup copy I "found online"(which I believe does what your method does, albeit an automatic installer) and it works pretty decently for me on Win10.

Can someone help me? I don't see level 5 "Epilogue" even after completing the game.

I'm not sure what you interpret "beating the game" to mean, but the Epilogue is supposed to appear on the menu after you beat each and every one of all 4 of the previous Acts.

If you have done that and it didn't appear, then maybe your game got bugged somehow. The best thing you could do is to re-load a saved game from near the end of each of the 4 acts, and complete them again and see if that causes the Epilogue to appear.

Also, I think it's quite a stretch to call the Epilogue a "level," since it's actually just a very brief scene in the headquarters that takes less than 5 minutes to complete from start to finish. It is important to see though.
A lot of these problems would go away if there was a half decent VM or emulator of the systems and GPUs from that time period the games were made in.
People have posted about issues getting the game to work, I can't even get it to install. ^^;

Because it has something called SECDRV.SYS, which is an old form of DRM Windows 10 and 11 won't work with any more, the installer just gives up.

Does anyone have a workaround for this? Or know of any? Maybe certain files can be copied directly from the disc?

I'll continue to look around online in the meantime. Thanks.

Odd. Installation has suddenly sprung into life. That was one hell of a delay lol. Several minutes must have gone by since I started the installation wizard.

Look up a program called SafeDiskShim.

Ooh. I've not heard of that. Awesome! I'll give it a try now. Thank you. :D

EDIT: Hmm. Well, I've installed it, but I can't say I've noticed any difference. I can try loading up the setup wizard a couple of times and it just loads multiple versions in the Task Manager.

That shim is for running the game itself iirc.

Yeah, I don't have too much of a problem getting the game to play. It just doesn't appear to do anything when trying to run the installer. I even tried copying the contents of the disc to the HDD, but that didn't help. I'm not sure what caused it to work after several minutes of delay, but it decided not to work again last night. :-\
