I don't understand what caused these games to not appear on any digital store all these years.
The European version of Nocturne uses the SafeDisc DRM, but the US version is completely DRM-free, and even comes with the latest patch (1.00.52) applied. Blair Witch - Rustin Parr has a simple CD check in the European version, but is also DRM-free in the US version. The Legend of Coffin Rock and The Elly Kedward Tale are completely DRM-free in both regions!

The four titles work very well with DDrawCompat, and I want to give all my thanks to narzoul. But I kept thinking... If all four were on GOG, with the preservation program, they would be even better, free of any errors! So why the hell aren't they here?! Could it be the Gathering of Developers holding the rights? They went bankrupt in 2004. Who will own the franchise? Nocturne and Rustin Parr were developed by Terminal Reality (bankrupt), and Volume 2 by Human Head Studios (gone in 2019), and finally Volume 3 was developed by Ritual Entertainment, which also went bankrupt. These games cannot be buried in copyright hell.

They are almost certainly stuck in copyright and licensing hell.

Copyright hell occurs when there is no clear ownership of a copyright, making it difficult, if not impossible, to resolve legal issues. Since you’re in Brazil, you have the same copyright duration as the U.S., U.K., and most other countries. That means the copyright lasts 70 years after the author's death, or, if there is no clear authorship, 70 years after the first publication. For example, take the game Nocturne, which was released in 1999. Under current copyright law, it wouldn’t enter the public domain until 2069.

The main issue with copyright is that it is always owned by someone, unless it has expired and entered the public domain, or the copyright holders have deliberately released it in public domain, or under a Creative Commons or similar license.

If a copyright holder does not officially release the work, it remains protected. And if ownership is unclear, then no one has the authority to release it into the public domain or sell it, meaning the work remains stuck until the copyright term runs out

amok, thanks for the information! Indeed, once in copyright hell, the work tends to burn for all eternity. It's a shame...

I suppose Lionsgate Games owns the franchise. Taking into account that they were the ones who published Blair Witch (2019) which, by the way, is on GOG. I think the developer (Bloober Team) does not have all the rights to the franchise.

Wait a minute... Lionsgate is also a movie studio, right? Oh shit, I think this is the same case as No One Lives Forever, I mean, movie studios involved holding the rights and not wanting to publish the thing anywhere.

I believe Terminal Reality may still have the rights, and since BloodRayne and Terminal Velocity were recently remastered, it's still possible a future remaster of Nocturne might be in the works.

The Blair Witch games, though, who knows if that'll ever be.
