Building castles in the sky.

No Man's Sky, the ambitious open-space exploration game in a procedurally-generated universe, just received a massive update appropriately named NEXT.

It brings a whole bunch of changes and additions across the board, most notably:

- Option to switch between first and third person view at will
- Visual upgrades to ships, NPCs, buildings, terrain textures, space vistas - pretty much everything
- You can now build far more complex bases anywhere on the planet
- Build your own fleet, upgrade it, and send it out or keep it close while exploring a system

The multiplayer element of NEXT is not yet included in the DRM-free edition of the game. Read more about the delay below:

"[i]From launch, the DRM-free edition of No Man's Sky will include all single-player content introduced by NEXT: third-person mode, upgraded visuals, better base building, player customization, and more.

However the multiplayer component will not be ready at launch; we expect it to be released later this year as full multiplayer parity remains in the pipeline.

For a small, independent studio, developing the feature across multiple platforms is a hugely ambitious and technical challenge which resulted in this delayed release. Hello Games is however joining forces with GOG.COM to introduce full multiplayer via the GOG Galaxy platform.

We appreciate your immense support and patience.

Well, I am disappointed, not gonna say I am not.

If the Steam has it now and we don´t I get people getting disillusioned (again) - given that the whole reason behind this update is the multiplayer itself.
But the reason Hello Games stated is believable given scope of their company, and working closely with GOG is a nice touch, so I will wait.

This time.

Can´t blame those who won´t.

wolfsite: Wow, people really like shooting the messenger when it's the developers fault for not having MP ready on release.

GuruBuckaroo: WHAT MESSAGE? Gog has been SILENT on this whole topic since it was announced. If they had told people ahead of time, instead of release day when everyone was hyped to start playing, maybe the feedback wouldn't have been so harsh. And you can't blame that on HG.
Don't know the whole story though, for all we know Hello Games promised MP would be ready for release on GOG then at the last minute they realized it couldn't be done, wouldn't be the first time Hello Games has done that.

I have requested a refund. No more money for GOG from me. Extremely disappointed and upset.

How can they let this happen? Regardless of who's fault it is, they do not offer the full experience compared to other platforms, yet demand the same amount of money for a crippled game.

It's a farce.

CARRiON-XCII: Because at the end of the day it doesn't really matter, does it? Put yourself in their shoes. They bought a game here because they expected the same treatment. Instead they got shafted out of features that they're friends over at Steam are experiencing just fine at this moment.

It isn't even just this game. Multiple games on GOG are crippled compared to their Steam version. It's easily one of GOG's largest issues.
I agree with you there, but in many cases the issue is with the developers not wanting to put the effort into making the full experience work for the GOG version, in these cases they probably shouldn't have even bothered releasing the game in the first place.

Well, is curious how the people are angry about the "no multiplayer" thing... understand me guys, I see youR point with the argument: "I have paid the same price that a Steam costumer and I don't have the whole game", but at least HG has not abandoned the free DRM version of the game and their are working in a multiplayer for this version.

Yes, I know that the reliability of HG is minimal, but knowing that they are working in a multiplayer free DMR version of the NMS... well, that is more that we can said of the rest of companies that directly said: "multiplayer for the free DRM versions of our games? It's a joke? HAHAHAHAHAAAA"

MonkeysLP: Cool beans.

So now that we're getting shafted for buying the game on GoG, are you going to force HG to refund those of us who want a refund so we can actually play the game with all the features other players have?

Credit card companies are great a dealing with issues like these, but you guys will end up having to pay extra charge back fees for every person that does this.

Better to offer refunds, it'll be less damaging financially.
Will they refund? probably NOT. I bought this day one. lol

Hello Games, they are the ones that decided to release the update without the MP mode.
At least, we are having the comunity events, right?
For now, i dont care about MP, but the things we are getting through the comunity events (skins, emotes and building parts and more), that i am interested.
Please someone confirm if we are getting the events, please, because that is one of the parts that interest me more in this update.

If you want to contact Hello Games about the issue here you go:

hello@hellogames.co.uk

The funny thing here is that Hello Games main website isn't even up to date about the NEXT update

GOG.com: " However the multiplayer component will not be ready at launch; we expect it to be released later this year as full multiplayer parity remains in the pipeline. "
So what happens to all our progress and bases when multiplayer is added?
and how long have you known won't be able to provide MP support that the NEXT patch implements?
seems really bad form to wait till patch day !!!

and you failed to mention if and when you do provide MP is it just between GoG users or does it include Steam players too?
how about giving us Steam codes so we can play with our friends until you do get around to supporting it?

I am a day one player. For 2 years HG has provided free updates. NEXT is a free update. As per the above release notes the DRM Free edition will come later this year. I chose DRM Free GOG on principle. I am willing to wait for the DRM Free multiplayer elements and thank you HG and GOG for not throwing in the towel on us. Until it does come out there is much to see and explore.
