Bundlestars has a flash sale right now and every last game has...steam drm. The sales are fairly deep with a lot of 75 percent off or more. I like using GOG but damn every last sale goes to steam and steam keys. It's really hard to give up on 75 percent off Bastion even though it's for steam. Whenever GOG has sales they usually discount a lot of games but the games your looking for might not always be there during big sales.

TLDR: why are GOG keys barely distributed in 3rd party sales but steam keys are passed out easily?

different philosophy.

Remember that Valve do not see a red cent of any sale outside of Steam Store.

Interesting. So they do the backbone work of supplying the installation files, essentially for free, and in return they get a potential customer for their ecosystem. Seems like a decent trade for Steam, since at 75% off they weren't going to make a whole lot anyway.

It is a fact, and Valve did make it, so I guess it makes you right?

Hm, I can`t believe that Steam gives away keys for free, so that other traders can sell them and make lots of money.

they do, though.

edit 2: Actually, they even let some publishers generate their own Steam Keys...

No, Steam gives free keys to the developers. In other words, if you made a game and are selling it on Steam, you can get as many Steam keys for it as you like, which you can then sell elsewhere.

What, you thought Steam gave free keys for various random games to Humble Bundle and other sites? That would be stealing from the developers.

i would guess that the agreement between steam and the dev has some kind of limit for that keys. or the dev has to pay every month to steam for having his game on steam.

Wasn't jefequeso the gog user with a few games published on steam? You could try asking him about it, though he will most likely tell you that the contract is covered by an NDA.

Because with Steam, they're popular enough for it to work to their advantage and get publicity.
With GOG, people would probably just stop buying here and get the keys from bundles instead. I know that's exactly what I do with Steam, and GOG pulls in a slim enough revenue as it is.
