rojimboo: Its 12% plus GOG takes another 30% cut
GOG takes a 30% cut on its normal games sold through its own store.

But probably GOG negotiated to take a much a smaller cut of EGS' games sold via Galaxy. We don't know what that number is.

I don't see why EGS would agree to give GOG a 30% cut of its games. I find that proposition to be extremely unlikely.

Then again, I don't know why EGS agreed to this deal at all. We need some games journalist to anonymously dig out some insider information about the details of these matters before we will be able really to understand exactly what is going on here.

teceem: Where did you read that?

You can buy Steam/GOG/etc... games using an internet browser. Does that buying-medium (the browser) have any further relevance on what happens after that game is bought?

As I see it, it's just another way of buying EGS games, IF that's what you want to do.
The article mentions it.

As to your other stuff about purchasing Epic games on Galaxy - I don't see how any of that answers my questions.

Yeah I don't think we'll ever know the details behind this deal. It doesn't make any sense really.

Do you mean this part:

Their example screenshot of a store page for The Outer Worlds inside GOG Galaxy notes that “You can install and launch [the game] via both GOG Galaxy and Epic Games Store client”, so it sounds like you can skip using the Epic launcher, which would be a small blessing. The screenshot also notes that yes you do need an Epic account, and buying Epic games through GOG Galaxy will add them to your Epic account.
You're just basing that on an interpretation of the article writer (in bold).
For example: Epic sells Ubisoft games that you can launch via Uplay or the EGS client. (but the latter still needs Uplay)
edit: ok, I'm not sure about the Uplay client requirement - only that the account is needed. And that's all I care about really - a client/launcher (in general) is not DRM - the online account requirement is.

Truth007: This is really bad, looks like they are listening to the wrong gamers and becoming more like Steam.
I'm not trying to be argumentative; I really don't understand. Why are you against it? This seems to fit perfectly with your "If you don't want the game then don't buy it" approach.

I have been so fucking disappointed in this store lately, it's hot garbage, staff never responds to issues and i'm not happy about CDP trying to test my limits.

Still the point is GOG offers drm free games i can't fucking buy anywhere else and i have a lot invested here but i have said it before, the moment i can't use my games without drm i'm gone.

Better hope this benefits GOG in anyway because right now it's run by complete incompetence, atleast i can choose not to buy so thx i guess but please use the money to actually improve the store now.

Blech, this sounds like an awful idea.

DRM-free is GOG's sole remaining USP (and even then it's looking shaky with things like the current No Man's Sky thing). Why would they further erode it by selling games from a competing store that will require a client?
Seems like GOG is giving up on DRM-free as their USP and pushing hard on the "all in one" thing.
Will GOG limit the Epic Games Store exclusives sold through Galaxy to DRM-free only? Will the games purchased through the Galaxy/Epic Games Store collaboration also appear on our GOG game shelves?

Thanks. Now I understand.

The shelf in your GOG account? That would make them GOG games. (clearly not)
The "shelf" in the Galaxy 2.0 client? EGS games already show up there if you link up an EGS account.

I just realised something!

When Epic Games buys GOG, GOG's offices will be less than 10 kilometres from my house!
I guess GoG must be really confident that people will still discern between making a purchase on GoG or on the shitstore. Knowing people, I'm not so sure about that.
Might really bite them in the ass further down the road, especially for titles that are available on both storefronts right now.
Or the Cyberpunk 2077 pre-order, if that's available on the shitstore as well(?).

Those tiny, easily missable labels (https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EjPM4UAXYAAa1F-?format=jpg&name=large) indicating the storefront carrying the title in question won't do them any favours in this regard.

So galaxy has finally been announced as the new drm platform from gog. Epic will not provide drm free installers, and will require you to log in to play those games, even that group who for long have denounced anything gog have done as drm cannot ignore this, it is clearly DRM.

Key take away:
GOG is selling DRM games. Totally against their own key selling point, and their own website, here is some interesting reading of what was:

https://www.gog.com/news/the_fck_drm_initiative
I think the goal here is to be able to buy games from different platforms using only 1 launcher. So yeah, you still need to create accounts for those platforms but you only need to use 1 launcher.
I guess what I'm wondering is how curated will this Epic Games Store through Galaxy be. Will it just be a clone of the EGS website or will it be a custom store curated by GOG that excludes games GOG itself already sells? Will GOG only offer DRM-free EGS exclusives and, if so, will those also be available as separate DRM-free installers on our GOG accounts?
