Thanks! Are there any restoration mods for Arcanum, like modders did for Kotor II?

Each of the Neverwinter Nights games has a total of three official campaigns (NWN2 has a fourth, semi-official, campaign). Each NWN game followed a similar pattern, starting off with a complete and total stinker of a campaign only to redeem themselves with awesome expansion packs that did everything right. As a result, each NWN game has one shitty campaign and two great ones.

From the newer Fallouts, I've only played Fallout 3. I enjoyed F3 in the same way I enjoy every TES game but there is no comparison between F3 and the original Fallouts. For me, F1 & F2 are vastly better games overall. Better gameplay, better dialogues, better quests, better story, better everything. I consider Fallout 1 & 2 two of the greatest cRPGs of all time.

I'd argue that Arcanum has aged worse than BG1, especially with all the mod's and / or EE version of BG1.

There is a fan patch, but parts of the game, especially combat, are simply broken.

I bought the enhanced version of 1. Is there a good difference, besides increased resolution?

I totally disagree with that but that's not the point of this post. The real point is: Who would want to play Baldur's Gate II, without playing Baldur's Gate first? You' ll miss half the journey that way!

As for the "aged" part; use mods! You only really need the widescreen mod to set a higher resolution. The rest mods are a personal preference.

Yes, that's why i bought both installments of the series! I gotta know everything XD I did purchase the enhanced editions, do they add anything besides a higher resolution setting?
That's a shame, but since I'm more of a story driven player, i might just give it a go around.

I think you'll also like The Witcher. The engine was based on Nwn's Aurora and the story is pretty solid.

BG2 does not depend that much on BG1 that you wouldn't be able to get into it.

I'm not talking about gfx or sth like that here, otherwise I wouldn't recommend the Fallout games. BG1 is quite bland in different cases - while you have a lot of maps, many of them does not differ that much (like you always have those ~3 encounters on every map, including one "my kitty is missing, can you find it?"-quest and one standard-group of enemies), quests were quite cheesy and not much diverse. BG2 improved a lot in that areas, PS:T and IWD have other strengths.

interesting, either way i'll have to play the first, even if it is a drag. I'd hate to not get the full effect of the story, otherwise. I also heard you can use the same character from the first when you start a game in the 2nd? Which would add more immersion to the story itself, in my opinion anyways.

The interface and the engine are the biggest changes. BG1EE uses a modified version of the BGII engine. This allows for some different classes and subclasses. Stackable items in the inventory hold more stuff. There are containers (gem bag, potion case, scroll case) which also help with inventory management. I prefer the EE interface over a widescreen modded original, but that's personal preference.

There is some added content, but it's not that great. Perhaps my biggest complaint about the EE version is that there is no way to turn off the added content. I wish they had a setting that could allow you to just play with the original content and NPC's.

Oh, the other advantage for me, the EE versions run natively on Linux. The originals have to use WINE or GemRB.

For the record, BG1 is pretty much my favorite video game ever, so I may have a case of rose-colored-glasses when it comes to BG1.

Its a shame you brought into the whole "enhanced" version of BG1/2 - you now miss out on the large amount of cummity content which doesn't work with the "endhanced" version. For instance, you could get BigWorld which combines both games, all the additional missing content, loads of npcs, extra user content (totalling around 30gb), all installed in three variations - i.e. one install changes the rules somewhat to make it more challenging.

Thanks for answering my question, glad i got the most bang for my buck. And i believe we all wear the nostalgia goggles from time to time. Don't get me talking about Morrowind, or I'll most likely make a fool of myself ;)
