GOG was (and still is) my favorite. BUT...

1. It turns down games that i really want (as well as many other gamers, judging by wishlist votes). One example, Celeste; another one, Agony Unrated.

2. I don't like Censor (and "fixing", "correctness"), much. Especially the dishonest, silent, stealthy pushing way of shoving it on you. In fact, Censorship is my number one deal-breaker, right after DRM and obligatory client.

I would greatly appreciate, reccomendations of known stores, that sell COMPLETELY DRM-FREE games.

Humble store, for instance, has a selection of DRM-Free games. Same goes for itchio. What are the other friendly to gamers storefronts?

There are none.

Only pie rat sources with cracked DRM come close. They don't have curation either.

We live in a world where a good storefront cannot be legally made (unless you have a mountain of money that makes steam and epic look small, but even then you're at the mercy of the whims of rightsholders), thanks to copyright and licensing bs :)

They also have the German language versions of some Daedalic games that Daedalic steadfastly refuse to release here for some unfathomable reason (and justify that with "not having the resources" to create a DRM-free build for gog, even though one is readily available on Zoom).



As for the topic: I know a lot of people don't want to hear this, but Steam DOES offer quite a number of DRM-free games (including HL1 Source, HL2 and Portal 1 - also various Sega titles). There are lots of resources online where you can check whether a game is DRM-free on Steam or not.

Also, the majority of games given away via the Epic Games Store seem to be DRM-free. IIRC, their client has no DRM of its own, so unless the publisher implements its own DRM, games on the Epic Store are DRM-free. Unlike gog, Epic didn't make a big deal out of them not slapping any DRM on the games they sell and most publishers seem oblivious to that fact - which would explain why there's lots of AAA games without DRM on Epic that aren't even sold here (the recent Batman games being a good example).

Almost all stores have now gone or not releasing anything. You basically have steam, epic, uplay, and gog trying to keep relevant. Nothing to stop you buying n a platform then downloading a crack or cracked copy, in most cases it’s a far superior product once the spyware and data scanner clients are removed.

Also, you can still buy games for PS4 and ps3 and not need anything other than the console and game - I know, how do they manage it without a client launcher?

Believe it or not, most games on the Epic Games Store are DRM free. Or at least, they don't require the client at all and can be backed up in a DRM free zip. You just need to install the client to download them.

Modern consoles need an account for updates though.

Which of these Fireflower games are actually good and not on GOG? I browsed and found nothing I wanted that I didn't already own or couldn't get here.

For that matter Crytivo, Zoom, and Humble store too. I've looked at their DRM free listings and I'm not too impressed. What are some games that are worth my time?

I have bought about 20 games from FFG that are not on gog. Most of them are adventure games. I would recommend Atlantis 5, Black Sails, Salammbo, The Descendant, The House of da Vinci.

Humblebundle has as many drm-free games as gog. Alpha Polaris is nice & not on gog.

True, but you don’t have to get updates, and you can wait a bit and get the gold or complete release later. In fact, the main downside with the PS4 is it’s limited, my ultra wide gsync is totally wasted on the hd only output from the PS4. But, if it’s a choice between that and uplay then it’s simple.
Just to note, there were some games that have only recently come to gog which were available elsewhere long before. Bioshock on humble, Venetica on fireflower.
Longbow games used to sell their own games, so did lots of other makers but that has pretty much gone. The client software and locking people into rental is now the norm and next up is streaming only.

I think a lot of games require day one updates to really work well nowadays, and of course a ton of games are digital only. Even ignoring all that though, the fact console games are tied to specific hardware is pretty much just as concerning to me as PC DRM is anyway. Especially since PC DRM can easily be circumvented when necessary.
