Tangerine Dream is what came to mind for me as well. Perhaps look into Mike Oldfield too.
And I totally forgot pure epicness:

Will since I also just stumbled into this genre a couple of days ago, and lstened to quite some stuff, I might be able to give you some hints.
The God of synthwave is definitely the one and only . [url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Vsf3zYppP4]Dangerous Days is pretty much the best thing in the enitre genre, there's nothing that comes even close. His new album The Uncanny Valley will be released next week, I think.

And, of course, if you want 80s synth stuff, you can never go wrong with the man who basically invented it: John Carpenter. He released a studio album called Lost Themes, and it's absolutely amazing. Probably one of the best albums that were released last year, and the one that got me into that kind of music.
A few weeks ago he released a sequel, Lost Themes II

Two other great albums are Behemoth by GosT and Trilogy by Carpenter Brut

Honorable mentions: Dan Terminus, Lazerhawk and Meteor

Now this is a special occasion- we agree on something in the world of popular culture! And yes, Oldfield is a good recommendation too. I'm partial to Songs of the Distant Earth myself.

Judging from the book recommendations you made in another thread, I believe we're pretty much in accord with most things other than movies.

And yes, SoDE is some good stuff. :)

jefequeso: I'm looking for music similar to the Unreal soundtrack, the Bladerunner soundtrack, and the Only God Forgives soundtrack... ya know, 80s-esque synth stuff. Pandora just keeps spitting out Enya however. So... any suggestions?
Search these and you will find all that you seek:

VHS Dreams
Vector Hold
Dynatron
Absolute Valentine
Tokyo Rose
Flash Arnold
Action Jackson
Mitch Murder
Le Cassette

and for a record label check out: Rosso Corsa Collective

Yep. Or some Brian Eno if you want to pump your hipster cred. Wendy Carlos if you wanna impress the New York art crowd. Daniel Lanois if you need some Canadian friends. Slayer if you just feel like pissing everyone off.
