It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Gmail has just sank to an unbelieveably low level

I created a few gmail accounts back when gmail was in beta. Well before android and youtube. I have always used it as email. Multiple times this year, google locks me out. My passwords are correct. Gmail claims i am signing in in an unusual way. Like a browser because nobody uses a browser to sign in anywhere right. So they want me to do abosultely annoying things. First time i was on a PC and they wanted me to access via an android device. I did it. This time, i was on android and they want me to put in a telephone. Im at my wits end. I have lost access to my account for no reason. if security has gone this bad, im just going to stop creating accounts. Im really at my wits end. Even my gog account is tied to it so now wallet is a problem. :-(
Maybe someone got hold of your password and is trying to access your mail account from elsewhere?

(In which case, changing the password should fix it.)

Sounds to me like he's just running into Google's security measures. If you sign into your gmail from a different browser, device, or IP than what you usually use, they want you to verify that it's a legitimate login. I don't really see the issue with this. I'd rather the extra security than easily having my account hacked.

If his issue is something else, then I'm totally misunderstanding the post.
I dont really know what google want. My ip changes whenever my isp says so and my browsers and devices vary but this has never happened. it doesnt look hacked and i dont provide phone because my phine number keeps chanbing. Theres no point in giving a phone number. I think its time to move on to another email proviser. If anyone knows a good email provider who isnt live or gmail, and favours poor security over extreme security, your recommendation is highly appreciated.

Personally, I'd try to figure it out with Google. They have the best service there is and in my mind trying to solve this issue is worth it in the long run.

That said, if you've made up your mind and staying with Google is not an option, you have several ways in which to handle this.

1. Try Outlook.com. It's Microsoft's own service and is reasonably good.
2. Buy a domain name and host it somewhere. That way you'll be able to run your own email and have it customized to your needs. Something like timmy@010.co.uk or similar. The drawback is in that hosting services involve a small monthly fee. Something like $3-$5 depending on what's involved.
yandex.com worksforme.
All i know it's that my login is suspicious. This happened on another Gmail account and after i sorted it out it was fine. So it wasn't hacked. This time, on another account, they want a telephone number. I don't have a definitive phone to give. Or,i tell them my last password and account creation date, after logging in. I never get past this screen. I don't have the view to check last logins because it never lets me proceed that far. So to clarify, i login, fail checks and stuck
I use these besides Google Mail:

- My ISP, so the company I got broadband from. They added a mail account for me through support.

- Microsoft mail account (live.com, outlook.com, hotmail.com, msn.com)

Regarding being stuck, there is some advice here, but not sure if it helps:

Hello again

Google advise that you have not been able to provide enough information to satisfy them as to the ownership of the account; consequently the account cannot be returned at this stage..

Google suggested that you keep trying the Account Recovery procedure. Don't submit more than once a day, otherwise you may be locked out as a spammer And only resubmit if you have new information.

Sometimes a little research on your behalf can provide the right answers! And if you can, lodge the recovery from a place where you usually sign in.

Unfortunately, I can't help with this process. I am not an employee of Google, and I have no idea of the criteria needed here.

Good luck!

Sounds like someone is repeatedly trying to get into your account.
Google and Youtube have grown sizable layer of automation between user and administration.

The registrations are phone-based only. In case of the issues you have only the options which they provide, otherwise you'll be forwarded to their FAQ. There is no human service at all. Its like an automated machine, designed for maximizing profit. If it doesn't work, its not their problem - and any type of information which you have handled them can be deleted at their sole discretion. This is what happened, and it happened on global level, as changed to youtube are completely autonomous and without any talk with content providers - reason of currently ongoing uproar on youtube.

This is not the case with yandex.com or mail.ru. For example during near 20 years of having a free account at mail.ru, I have mailed their support a dozen of times and always got response from human. I also had few account accidents and just contacted their HQ in Moscow via telephone to spare the waiting time and it got ressolved. The number is not costly "service number", but a regular one. Difference, is that mail.ru dropped english interface few years ago, but yandex still offers it - and options are also larger.

I can recommend vid.me as video service btw. Google is currently only good for sharing text documents online.

Edit: maybe I am wrong about mail.ru dropping english interface. Try at your own risk.

I signed in on desktop and there was no issues. It mentioned a security risk attempt. Basically me using an android device on chrome browser. I swear google and shit are one and the same thing. Apologies for my language
Never trust Google.
They used to lock out people without reason.

I have my own domain and my own email service.
I only use gmail as disposable mail accounts.
Seriously, this is just a security measure. IndieGala does the same thing, ffs. Yesterday I bought a game on IG using a different browser than I usually use and got the same type of security requirement: had to go to my registered e-mail and enter the code they sent me before they'd allow the transaction.

Honestly, there are a lot of things about these large corporations to complain about, but extra security measures to keep your accounts secure isn't one of them.

Nope, this is totally foreign. Using browsers was so 2000's, get with the times dude.

I sign in by having a retinal scan and then having my DNA checked via my reproductive organs being shoved in a jar where for an hour I'm queried before I'm verified, then I get a chip forced into my hand and I have to hover my hand in front of this little sensor each time I want to use my Gmail account, it's totally worth it that every couple days I need to re-verify and have these needles stick me to re-verify who I am...

The best part of it all is the painkillers they have to use so you don't mind.

Dude... is the room spinning now?
