okay, fellow goglodytes, this time it's my turn to ask fur your help.
the thing is, suddenly I've remembered playing a certain game and... guess, the subj tells everything.
here's what I DO remember:
- I played it on ZX Spectrum. 128k, I think. but could be 48k as well.
- it was a platformer.
- it wasn't a sidescrolling one. screens were still and only changed when you reached the boundaries. think Dizzy.
- it was about some energy plant, I guess? there were reactor cores of some sort that went awry and the player needed to balance 'em.
- speaking of the player. the "protag" was looking like an egg on thin "spider-like" legs.
- there were mushrooms growing here and there and the player could stump them into floor by jumping.
- IIRC, the player's health was shared with the energy of forementioned cores. so it was impossible to drain from the overloaded one when healthy and to pump the underpowered ones up if the damage was taken.
- as fur enemies, I remember some blueush foam crawling on the floor.
sorry, can't even give an approximate year, but the game in question surely was released before 1995 (as I parted with my Spekky by that time) and I doubt earlier 1988 (fur its graphics were pretty good).

and it definitely wasn't Amaurote, he-he.

thanks in advance.

Could it have been a Dizzy-clone, like Giddy? Or Seymour?

FrodoBaggins: Could it have been a Dizzy-clone, like Giddy? Or Seymour?
thanks fur the suggestion, but, sadly, no.
the game was dead serious. and sci-fi-ish.
I can only tell you that the ZX Spectrum was 48K. Showed up after the C-64. The only game I had on it was the SW Speedbike race.
Your description strongly reminds me of Arac (aka Spiderbot); unfortunately it was a C64 game, not a Spectrum one...

It might be Starquake.

hmmm. it looks interesting, thanks, I'll give it a try. but, sadly, it's not that game either.

might be useful resources.
thanks fur the SpectrumComputing link. will check it. tried World of Spectrum - its search and filtering are even worse than here, wound up triyng to bruteforce... only to end up tired after almost whole day of looking through its DB entries.

Well, comparing the OPs description and the description from your link, it looks like you hit the jackpot. Awesome.
YAY! THANKS! it really IS the game I was trying to remember!
