amok: But the ulitmate collection is for sale on Steam right now, you can get the lot of them for a cup of coffee, and take the game data from there.

vv221: It’s worthless to me, as I never buy (or even claim for free) DRMed content.
*shrug* Your myoptic way if looking at this is your loss. As I said, a cup of coffee gets you all the files, and you just rip them from there to use as you will with the source code later, making them DRM free. I dont really care, so good for you, I guess.

I have no problem with your choice to buy DRMed content that you can crack afterwards. But there is no way I would do that myself, my money is never going to support DRM-encumbered distribution.

I do not even pirate such games, I simply ignore them and play DRM-free ones instead.

it is not cracking.... nor is it even in the ball park of piracy...

You buy the game files, and use them wit the source coide that has now been freely distibuted by the createors. The source coode is DRM free, so when you use them with the files from your legaly bought game files, it makes thme DRM free as well.

Syphon72: I have Red Alert 3 from Amazon. It's Completely DRM free besides having to enter the Serial Key on install. But you do not need a crack to play it.
Nice. My game also installs without issues with just the CD key, but phones home on first launch to check whether too many installations have been activated with that key. Never again on subsequent launches, which is what lulled me into thinking it was DRM-free, as it used to launch without issues or even internet connection.

It was possible to "deauthorize" an installation directly from the game itself and "refund" the activation so the number of installs was not finite per se, but as I said, I was pretty clueless about DRM those 15+ years ago, so never did that and apparently, they are now all used up :P

Either way, it's times like these I'm am extremely grateful for sites like GCW (not writing out the full name just to be sure :P) still existing and hoping they will continue in the future. Now I have archived... ermm..... "patches" to be able to play the game from my disc on versions 1.0 and 1.12. So kudos to this thread for making me check and save the game.

I wonder if my version is trying to phone home. I never had it blocked for too many installations. Considering I had the game almost as long as my GOG account,

But I do notice it takes an little bit of time to boot up. Maybe it's trying to phone home, but the Amazon version has that check feature disabled. Idk.

Thank God for GCE, I use it on most of my retail games.

Shmacky-McNuts: Last I looked, we can get one for one clones of several of these games already. Though I didnt bother, given the utter mess of all of them.
One on One ?!?! They'd wish!!

We have Mechabellum these days,
