This is completely right. Requiring people to conform is the basis for traditional religions. Every religion has its set of rules, values and moral standards. The only thing that differs is the level of "enforcement" and imposition of these rules. Religion is a form of social control (law and morality are another examples). This is a fact, and i'm sure you won't find respected sociologists saying otherwise.
