A new Might & Magic game, though not one anyone was expecting I think.

It actully looks pretty interesting- I've been looking for games that look and feel like tabletop RPGs and wargames, so this got me pretty excited... until I realised it's primarly multiplayer focused, and it's only available through Steam anyway. Thanks Ubisoft.

Also- the "Might & Magic paint workshop" link actually leads to Assassin's Creed page. Slowclap.

That's a bit of a bummer.

I've been in the mood for similar games lately and wish there were more "boardgame style" / tabletop RPG-like games.

Thea scratches that itch, so does Temple of Elemental Evil. But it really is a genre that needs to be explored a bit more. I get that certain turnbased / 4X / tactical games can sort of feel like it, but I do wish a few developers would try to work in more boardgame / tabletop type mechanics.

I can't even quite describe what would necessarily make a traditional TBS / RPG more tabletop beyond a feel, but I hope someone out there starts injecting it into their game!

I'm still hoping that the Warlock of Firetop Mountain will get here eventually (and if not, I'll get it on Humble). I'm still baffled that GOG rejected it. Card Hunter is also pretty nice, although it could really do with a proper story to keep a player invested.

Looks like a tabletop Spin-off ^_^

I am NOTORIOUSLY anti-account creation. I think I've signed up for one Free to Play MMO (Lord of the Rings) and quit after they changed their EULA. Hell, it took me AGES to sign up for GoG LOL. What can I say, I'm weird.

But I created a Card Hunter account several years ago and played through the campaign (super simple - an email and a password and I was up and running). LOVED the game. Everything about it was fantastic - from crafting decks to beat specific challenges, the old school "DnD in the basement" vibe to the overarching "nerd teen" meta. I never dove into the multiplayer but the single player portion was just perfect. Gorgeous appropriate and unique visual style plus a great gameplay loop and tactical turn based card combat.

If you liked Card Hunter, I'll look into that Warlock game and see what it's all about as well (haven't heard of it yet).

As far as I know it wasn't rejected. The devs didn't even bother to submit it to GOG, because all of their previous games were rejected, so it didn't seem worth the trouble.

Has anyone here bought it on Humble? I've been itching to try the game, but have been waiting for a bigger discount and/or a GOG release.

Have you tried the Blackguards games? Not sure which aspects of traditional tabletop/ Pen & Paper gaming you're looking for, but this series might be worth a look. ( It's even closely based on a traditional P&P RPG system. )

At this point I wouldn't even know what to expect from a Might and Magic game.

Ubisofts obsession with franchises is completely out of control, what's the point of using the might and magic name to make a... tabletop moba?

It's been almost 2 decades since the last games in the franchise that were considered universally good were released (Homm 3 and M&M 7). Dark Messiah was also good but had fuckall to do with anything (another "why is this not a standalone title, ubisoft?" release).

Might and Magic VII Heroes (can't even put their franchise names in the right order, goddamnit) was so bad it probably put the last nail in the TBS series' coffin; Just like M&M IX was so atrocious nobody even had faith in X being anything but garbage.

And the most important thing for a game about cool collectable(?) figurines: Might and Magic never had a consistent artstyle. I still don't get why they don't finally go back the classic mythological look of HoMM II or III because that would be fresh again nowadays. But no they have to ape WoW and Diablo yet again, and yet again they will fail.

Jesus ubisoft get your shit together please.

I thought I remember someone on the forum mentioning the devs saying it got rejected, but maybe it was like you say, and I just mixed things up.

I *think* X is meant to be pretty good. I'd actually love to play it - it's been one of my "bigger wants" to show up here. No likely I know, but stranger things have happened.
Unless it's a first-person party-based blobber like X was I could not give a single shit.
