my 7's are oems that came with their machines so there might be some merit in that

ashwald: And I bet MS never bothered updating their infrastructure before unleashing the horrible 10. But if we go for the conspiracy theory, why leave 8.1 alone? What do they gain from it that they can't gain from 7?
8.1 is tiny
it has a share of about 10.30%

but 7 has almost half the windows 7 market share
8 and 8.1 are inconsequential its 7 that needs to be tackled

its the new xp in short

according to net aplications windows 7 has 48,57 % as of may 2016
vista has 1.35 %
8 has 10.30%
windows 10 is about 20%

os X is at 10%

but windows 7 stil has about half the desktop market share
so ms is once again at war with ti self

Barefoot_Monkey: Or the windows update protocol changed, and you need an update to Windows Update for updates to work properly again. Fortunately you can download the update directly from the web. If only I knew the KB number I could tell you where.
my windows 7's are up to date
and it still takes ages

After the Windows 10 crapware, Microsoft should back off the OS market itself, imo.

Starcraft 1 and original diablo works , C&C tibirium wars 3 and kaynes wrath works and a lot of other stuff, Recoil, pitfall with some fixes now works. stuff like that

Know, when you read Microsoft's knowledge base, especially the description of their upgrades, you do indeed venture in Orwellian territory. Principles of Newspeak appear to have been fully applied. I would almost expect them to chnage the quick survey at the bottom of each page to "was this answer useful : yes , it was useful / no, it was not useless

And when you read their corporate communication ( or rather their truth department ) on the wonderful (TM) functionnalities (TM) of their latest creature, well, yes, indeed.

IMO, this is worse than the SecuROM fiasco. What do you think?
Not sure, didn't keep up with that information either. Course I was probably very poor at the time and was trying to make enough money to pay rent.

I think a lot more people should not be as forgiving and should give the middle finger to all companies that do bad practices.
