I think Super Panda Adventures is a real hidden gem when it comes to Metroidvanias (Trailer).
It's rather short at 5-10 hours of gameplay and the graphics aren't that great, but it is dirt cheap (3$ regular price, less than 1$ during sales) and the gameplay, tight controls, level design and boss battles are surprisingly good.

Unfortunately it is not available on GOG (Wishlist entry here).

The game used to be available DRM-free from Desura and in a Groupees bundle ages ago. Now it seems like it is only sold on Steam (Super Panda Adventures on Steam). It is playable without the Steam client once installed.

edit: Checked that game is indeed playable without Steam client (so basically DRM-free) and added link to trailer on Youtube.

SCPM: The Shantae games, Valdis Story: Abyssal City, Odallus: The Dark Call, and Dex are worth checking out, as well as La-Mulana and Treasure Adventure Game.
There's also Gateways, which is more puzzle-oriented, and the Darksiders games feature Metroidvania elements.

MarkoH01: Thank you Already played through both Darksiders (yes, you are right they also do count) and I already have Treasure Adventure game in my library though I did not play it yet. Maybe I should change this. Started Dex when it was a bonus game during the sale but so far I did not realized that it would have Metroidvania character. I will check out those other games you mentioned. Thank you again :)
I'd say Darksiders II is the more "proper" metroidvania out of the two Darksiders games. Heck, it kind of feels like a Zelda game at times with the puzzles found in the dungeons :D
My vote goes to Hollow Knight as well, one hell of a unique game that left me hooked. If you're looking for a challenge, La Mulana will surely give you one.
