Hi guys, I'm from Brazil and I'm really sad that the GOG team will have to end the support in the foruns and the store in our language. And yet, I'm really glad that you are still keep your business model in my country.

So I'm here to know if is there something that the Brazilian community could do to help the GOG group and other community members with the language barrier ???

anyway...thanks for the great job you guys did to us for all this time!
keep the great work! you guys still the best even in a different language =D
Isn't BR-PT pretty similar to PT in its written form? So forum/store language support shouldn't really matter, unless they are ending Portuguese language support in general...which would be weird. There is also the question why they "have" to end support and why there are no news anywhere about this.

The news are in the Brazilian forum:

Translated by Google:

We are closing support for the Brazilian version of GOG.com

With great regret, we have to announce that as of Monday, July 16, we will close support for the Brazilian version of the GOG.com store. Given the current situation, we can not fulfill the promise of dealing with the market entirely, with adequate support for Brazilian players. For us, doing things the best way possible is the only way to do them, and that is why we make the difficult decision to end support to the Brazilian market.

What does this mean for you?

As of July 16, we will not continue our communication in Brazilian Portuguese, this includes the publication of translated news and descriptions on game cards, as well as the administration of dedicated forums and social media channels. Despite this, we will keep the local currency, payment methods and technical support in the same way that is currently being done, as well as prices for the Brazilian market when our partners have this planning for their games.

We know this information is sad for you, and we appreciate all the support we receive from the Brazilian gaming community. Thanks for being with us, we hope you continue to visit GOG.com.

There seems to be an error in the Google translation.

This seems... odd.
Sure there are bound to be overheads involved in having a Brazilian forum and language support but I wouldn't have thought it was such a big deal that it was worth dropping completely, surely the benefits out weigh the small costs?

What do you mean with "YOUR" language? :-P

I can't say anything about other languages, but the Portuguese translation was not great. It always looked like half-Portuguese and half-English. Sticking to the English version was less distracting to me.

I suppose that "you guys" were not justifying the extra translation expenses. The Brazilian economic powerhouse is not showing up on the games market, it seems. I hope this will not inconvenience too many people.

Looks like that is actually the BR-PT forum and not the PT one (as there is none). This also made me realize there is nothing for the Spanish and Italian players.

Part of it is probably also the forum software which doesn't lend itself well for conversation. If this was a forum that encourages discussions, the different sections would probably be a lot more active.

Oh, the forum. Yeah, I peeked at it and it did seem a bit empty.

Do you suppose that GOG is working on a new forum and decided that supporting Portuguese was not worth it? Might as well cut it off now.

As someone who notices that there's no separation between British, Scottish, Australian, American, Canadian, etc (unless i'm missing where they're hiding this from us), but doesn't know Portuguese, can I ask why this is a big deal (then again, all i see are en, br, de, fr, pl, ru, and zh)?

Well, I don't know, but more often than not, news in PT-BR were always lagging a bit behind schedule.

I don't think I remember a single time where I got news from the PT-BR front page first, because I always came into the news post in English here in the forum first.

I think that gog never really found a good footing marketing wise here in Brazil, because I don't really remember seeing PT-BR adds for the website very often (compare it to Nuuvem, for example, which is always spewing out memes about how they're cheaper than steam, even though they mostly sell steam keys, over Facebook).

Our economy haven't been great either, I, myself, spent over a year unemployed, for example, so there's also that... last seasonal sale was the first time in more than a year that I actually bought something here. :(

Portuguese is one of the most spoken languages in the world, and Brazil accounts for the largest share of Portuguese speakers. Brazil is 83% of the size of Europe, and has 200M people. Very few of those people speak English, and fewer still fluently. It's a huge market.

There are very few notable differences between different varieties of English, and there would be absolutely no justification to provide separate language supports for them. What I find curious is that GOG doesn't have Spanish support.
GOG officially support Chinese, but they do it very badly.
The Chinese forum is buggy and abandoned, nobody cares.
Chinese users complained about GOG Support, and GOG still provide zero response.
They registered various social network accounts in Chinese, and just do not use them.

Yes, you read three sentences and you start to guess what version of Portuguese you are reading. I can't do that with English.

I too found it odd that Portuguese was supported before Spanish. My guess is that it was a case of opportunity. That is "Hey, I am from Brazil! How about I add the Portuguese language to the website? Would you be interested?" And GOG said "Hmm... OK. We will try it for a while and see how it turns out."
That person may be leaving GOG now, and hiring new translators does not seems to be worth it.

No idea but I would hope so. Different languages support is a must if GOG ever wants to grow larger. Ideally, they would build a proper base first (forum), then do some actual marketing (riding on the back of Cyberpunk 2077's popularity when it releases would be a good idea) and at that time have proper support in place so that people have a place to stay here. Also, users want to talk about more than just games, so having sections for movies, music etc etc is ideal. The way it is now, it's the exact opposite. Threads just sink into the nirvana, so of course barely anyone bothers using it.
