[This is a sticky post, it will be visible in every single page of this thread. It has been published in October 2020.]

Our moderation team decided not to take a side in the discussion since this giveaway thread was created by the community and, as long as there are no forum rules violated, is up to you, dear Gogers, to decide its fate. We will not set giveaway rules, edit the OP's post, nor lock the whole thread.

However, to make it easier for newcomers to understand the situation (about the OP being inactive and other), I will stick my own post right above the first one.

You are, of course, free to create new threads to start anew and make your own, clear rules. At the same time, please stay reasonable when crating them, as multiple new duplicates might make it even more confusing for many Gogers.

That being said, here you can find a post with dxenija's community poll to have better understanding of the situation: CLICK.

At the time of writing, open giveaway threads are:
- Massive Giveaways Blog (this one)
- Free (temporary) keys giveaway central topic.
- Updated Itch.io giveaways

Be nice to each other *flies away*

Finally, the last of the DOS based LSL series currently free from IndieGala: Leisure Suit Larry 6 - Shape Up Or Slip Out.

The only one we'll miss forever is part 4, aka Leisure Suit Larry – The Missing Floppies...

Update:
Pirate Codex – an additional freebie I got from the IndieGala Client's "Freebies & more" section (and which I don't find on the https://freebies.indiegala.com/ page)...

That's not quite correct.
There's also Leisure Suit Larry: Love for Sail!, but I wouldn't be too surprised to see it being released next week, if they follow the pattern.

Also, there are two (Sierra) versions of the first game and only one of them was available in the giveaway, so there's that too.

But a word of warning to everyone, you apparently need to download them immediately.
I claimed all of these, but even though those earlier games appear in the Showcase tab in the game library, they are no longer available for download.

I don't quite understand what's the point of such giveaways, but if you want these games, you apparently need to download them immediately, or you will otherwise end up looking at a page with no working download links!

You're right, I forgot that LSL7 still had a DOS version, and, yes, LSL1 had an EGA version as well which was not included. If I remember correctly it had a different and much simpler UI where you had to type in commands, like "walk to door" and "open door", very different from the VGA version.

I just checked, the games can be installed using the IndieGala (Beta) Client without issues.

I also checked if the download works from "My library", then "Showcase" via the IndieGala homepage and I was able to get all five parts as ZIP files.

Hi PixelBoy, I read your post and I went to indiegala webpage to try myself.
Same as Andtha, I did not have problem to download the 5 of them. Click on the Windows square (screenshot). Hope it helps

No. The LSL 1 giveaway was ONLY the EGA original version. The VGA is the remake, which was not included. They shut down that giveaway and removed it from the list of freebies (even though the page exists and still can be downloaded if you obtained it).

Yes, seems to be working now.

However, there is at least one guy commenting on IndieGala game page asking why the game was removed from his library, so if his wording there is correct, there seems to be some strange issues with this giveaway.

To be on the safe side, I recommend downloading immediately.

The confusion is probably caused by IndieGala.

The game page that was available for the first giveaway, and where that one guy is saying that the game was removed from his library, is titled:

"Leisure Suit Larry 1 - In the Land of the Lounge Lizards" (note the number one there)

The original game was called "Leisure Suit Larry In the Land of the Lounge Lizards" (without number one), so they have a wrong name for the game!

In addition to that, the banner graphics at the top of the page is from the Reloaded version of the game, so it is very confusing to know which version it actually is.

Of course reading through the game description makes it obvious which version it is, as they refer to parser not once, but twice, and also checking the screenshots confirm that it's the first LSL version of the game (of course Leisure Suit Larry in itself was already third time the same story was made into a game, after Softporn Adventure and Las Vegas).

For those who want to complete their LSL game collection, there's also a point-and-click fan remake of the second game, which is made with AGS and obviously freeware:

I was just simply correcting you that they were offering the EGA, not the VGA as you said when you stated that the EGA wasn't included. You had it backwards.

It isn't removed from the library (I've checked since I obtained it). I also have the Steam version, and that one has the two versions. The Steam page title there is exactly "Leisure Suit Larry 1 - In the Land of the Lounge Lizards" as well. It's understood to be the first game even though the actual title doesn't include the number. This is a non-issue. It's still the very same game, and only the original one for Indiegala.

The publisher just basically copy/pasted from the Steam description, but left out the VGA mention, since it isn't included. That may or may not be the issue, but it is one obvious thing going for it by the time it was removed. In fact, just to have the two games, like on Steam, you have to have them downloaded separately. So maybe they had issues with releasing the VGA on one page the way Indiegala set it up, or they just don't know how to do that without having to create a new page and not confuse people.

As for the banner, that's just for flavor. That's just people recognizing the artwork for it's flavor, nothing more. FWIW, it doesn't say "Reloaded", so there shouldn't be any confusion.

Don't fuss about the comments section too seriously.

I just cross-checked with all LSL parts I got from GOG.com. LSL1 from GOG has the original EGA version and the VGA version separate, and I got confused by the IndieGala banner showing the VGA version. Sorry, my mistake, and shame on me. LSL6 also has two versions at GOG, the original VGA CD-ROM version (should be the same as the one from IndieGala) and the Hi-Res version. Again, the Indiegala giveaway is missing the better (Hi-Res) version...

All IndieGala and GOG.com LSL versions from part 1 through 7 run with ScummVM, only the remake Leisure Suit Larry Reloaded (part 1) isn't supported by ScummVM (due to not using the original engine). The Softporn Advanture can be run using DOSBox. (I think the Softporn Adventure is part of the Leisure Suit Larry package from GOG.) I don't know about "Las Vegas", but the ScummVM Wiki has two different game entries that come close: Crazy Nick's Software Picks: Leisure Suit Larry's Casino (1992), which is also an SCI game and works with ScummVM, and Leisure Suit Larry's Casino (1998), a Windows game which doesn't work with ScummVM (non-SCI). (See ScummVM Wiki.)

I'm sorry for the confusion I caused. And IMHO I think that IndieGala should have included the VGA version of LSL1 and the Hi-Res version of LSL6.

BTW, GOG's version of LSL7 "Love for Sail!" includes multiple languages, not only English. I didn't check this but part 7 of LSL might have been the first translated release. My guess is that IndieGala, should this be the next giveaway, will only include the English language version...

I don't know about the Steam releases, but I guess that they might be similar (or identical) to GOG's releases...

I tried the link and downloaded the installation file only to receive an urgent warning in Mozilla Firefox that the file contains a virus. I tried to visit the developers' site and it seems to be either temporarily down or else permanently removed.

Edit: I checked the file on virustotal.com and 5 different scanners picked something up. I highly doubt the original published game had any viruses, but the current download source provided by the above link may have been recently compromised. If anyone has more info please let me know.
