mrkgnao: I'm not sure how I can make it clearer than having a dark red background and a price marked as "$19.99 – $16.00 = $3.99 (–80%)". What would you suggest?
avatar
PookaMustard: A textual representation that this is a sale. For example, this last part "(-80%)" could be reworded to "now discounted at 80% off" and on a separate line, preferably the first line. Also, throw in some green into the mix. Green is the color used to represent sales and savings on GOG (and regrettably, Steam).
A textual representation would take valuable screen space that would be useful only once (the first time someone sees a discounted entry) and wasteful ever thereafter. Anybody who has briefly used MaGog (yourself included) has already probably figured out what the red background means, so I don't think extra text is necessary. It probably is confusing the first time around, but afterwards it's pretty much obvious. I am willing to change the dark red colour to any other, provided that this is requested by a few users (I know that some users are very particular as to which colours are used). IIRC, this colour was requested by a user in the early days of MaGog.

P.S. As an aside, I believe dark red is a much more sensible colour than green for representing a sale. It means "Warning! Hide your wallet!"

Well, the red box already takes valuable space.

The problem is, again, I was confused at first as to what this red textbox meant. It could be better if you utilized some of that red for text. Also, I like the philosophy behind the color. Heh.

Mention it in the tutorial? No first time user reads it, probably, but then you'd say there it is, your fault for not knowing :)

Alternately, a "currently on sale" mouse-over tooltip?

Thanks. I'll do both.

ANNOUNCEMENT:
Version 7.2.5 has been released with the following features:

* Added a sentence to the tutorial page and a tooltip to the results page to clarify that a dark red background in the price column signifies that the game is currently on sale [suggested by Cavalary and PookaMustard]
* Removed the tooltip that displayed the game's ID when one hovered over the row number (no longer necessary as the ID is displayed in the image column)

Could you please check the following links (while logged in to GOG) and tell me what you see. If it's some text beginning with {"title":"Something Something Something", please copy paste the "Something Something Something" here. If it's empty or inaccessible (often redirecting you to the home page), please let me know:

It's redirecting to the home page. Deleted games? Pillars of Eternity pre-order?

Impossible to know. Usually it's some game that got its ID changed at some point, but the old ID is remembered by the library alongside the new one. Anyhow, can be safely ignored, as I'll tell MaGog to do when I get back home.

Hi mrkgnao,
Thanks for MaGog. I'd like to know the "manual way" for get the last version of a game without access to my library or if the game isn't in my library. Example Caesar III is 2.0.0.9 for GOG. I think everithing start from ID? Or is inside the source of the page of the game?

If I understand you correctly, you want to get the version portion of the GOG file name.

First, note that this is not the same as the displayed version.

See for example Hand of Fate:
- The Windows displayed version is "1.3.7 (gog-10)", while the version portion of the file name is 2.6.0.10
- The Mac displayed version is "1.3.7 (gog-17)", while the version portion of the file name is 2.11.0.17
- The Linux displayed version is "1.3.7 (gog-12)", while the version portion of the file name is 2.9.0.12

The only correlation between the two are the last set of digit(s), 10 (Windows), 17 (Mac), 12 (Linux) in the example above, which should be the same.

Many older games do not have a displayed version, only a version portion of the file name (e.g. Caesar 3).

Now to your question: You want to get the version portion of the GOG file name.

Well, the bad news is that in order to do that you need access to the file, which means that you can do it only for games you own. This is why, for example, if you check Firewatch on MaGog you will not see the file name, since I do not own the game. MaGog only displays file names (and sizes and modification times) for games I own. The displayed version, on the other hand can be obtained even if you do not own the game, but as I already mentioned, many games do not have that information yet (and, knowing GOG, probably never will).

To get the version portion of the GOG file name:
If you own a specific game, you can get the list of file URLs belonging to that game from:
https://www.gog.com/account/gameDetails/GAMEID.json
Then you need follow each of the URLs through all its redirections to find the actual file name.

Hope this helps.

You can get the information for any game that mrkgnao actually owns (if the games have these information on them) but not for any other games.

You can use MaGog to get that information for the 1,000+ games that I own.
