phaolo: But can Magog manage to preserve game->mytags associations? (eg: notes)
Also, what happens when "complete editions" substitute the normal+DLCs ones?
These obsolete IDs were never part of the catalogue. I have no idea what they represent. Also, what happens when "complete editions" substitute the normal+DLCs ones?
Whenever GOG changes a game ID (most often when moving from preorder to release), MaGog migrates all your My Fields from the old ID to the new ID. This happens semi-automatically. That means it's done automatically when you next load MaGog, but I need to first make some slight changes to the database (identify for MaGog which ID changed to which), so it may actually happen a few hours after the GOG change. I have My Fields for every single game in the catalogue and I have never lost one.
As for what happens when complete/redux/director's editions substitute normal ones, it depends on how GOG implements it:
- If GOG keeps the same game ID (e.g. recently Ether One), nothing changes
- If GOG gives the new edition a new ID (e.g. recently Darksiders II, Divinity Original Sin), I consider it a new game and the old game +/- DLC as removed games, so both remain as independent items in the catalogue. That way, the information attached to the old edition (e.g. stars, ratings, reviews) is not lost by MaGog, even though GOG loses it. The My Fields information is not migrated in this case, but kept with the removed game.
P.S. One exception is the inane GOG idea of having two "Legends of Eisenwald" catalogue entries at the same time (one "special", one "upcoming"). In this case, anything you associate with the "special" item is lost when it is removed from the catalogue (probably tomorrow).
