I’ve never owned a windows machine before but I’m looking to get a system for less than $1000 that can play games on here and maybe some newer games like Divinity original sin 2. I currently play a MacBook Pro from when Steve jobs was still alive. What do y’all think?

Funny, I'm going the opposite direction. I'm limiting what I can do by moving to Mac products, but the security of Apple products convinced me. Enjoy Windows, just double check everything you do or you'll mess up the fragile-as-glass Windows 10.

Actually, I took the third option and went with Linux. It's probably more in line with what you're used to.

No need to install Linux for Wine, yet. And there are more native ports for OSX as well. Would be better off installing Windows for games anyway, but it still wouldn't be fun with outdated hardware like that.

@topic: Id go for it, i needed a second computer two yrs ago to work while my main (Mac) was computing and went with a refurbished HP Z (which also runs OSX really well), didn't regret it.
Windows 10 has its flaws but apart from some Microsoft-typical annoyances its pretty usable... and you can definitely get something decent for 1K.

Yet. :) Not for long. Soon Apple is to drop OpenGL and all the legacy ports with it. Hardly a compliment. If it wasn't, it wouldn't be on the market at all!
That being said, the OP's $1000 is quite adequate for a new Personal Computer… provided (s)he won't spend part of the money on a Windows™ license. :)

Any firms or manufacturers that you recommend visiting? Should I got with a custom builder or just get a HP or Dell off the rack? And windows is the best for using GOG right?

Personally I find it the most fascinating to build a PC myself. I'd just order or purchase the components suited for my tasks the most. And then assemble it all myself! After all, this ability to make your own computer is what facilitated the IBM PC's victory over all other computers of the time ("Commodore Amiga", "Amstrad CPC" et al.). :)

But to each his/her own, you might find it daunting at first, so getting the PC "prêt à porté" is totally valid. Alas, I don't know any reliable assemblers in your country, sorry. That depends. Personally I won't use Windows in a foreseeable future, but yes, GOG is very Windows-centric. "GOG Galaxy" requires Windows (Linux won't do).
