Austrobogulator: Woah, there's some real hot takes going on in this thread :o
That's GOG forum for ya, hard hitting opinions on some of the most controversial subjects in all of gaming! Next up: Baldur's Gate kinda sucks! Get the pitchforks ready!

Matewis: Stuck in Last Crusade at the moment, thanks for reminding me :)
Yes, sorry but I had to remind you, Indy needs you! Go and help him find the Holy Grail! :)

avatar
Matewis: Got pretty far in Fate of Atlantis playing together with the lady, but I want to start over playing only with Indy, and leave playing together with her for my 2nd playthrough.

I've checked out Grim Fandengo and Full Throttle and love the atmosphere and worlds of both. Hopefully something for later in 2019.
Cool, have fun with those!

krugos2: Thanks to GOG donating Full Throttle and to the Winter sale discounts, I was able to finally complete my LucasArts adventure games collection.
avatar
PixelBoy: No you didn't. Full Throttle Remastered is not a LucasArts game, it's a remake by DoubleFine.
avatar
krugos2: I have not played all of these games (and I won't be able to play Grim Fandango this time because it doesn't work with my Intel grahics card)
avatar
PixelBoy: Which probably means that you are trying to play Grim Fandango Remastered, which once again, is not a LucasArts game, but DoubleFine remake.

These remakes use different engines than original games, the original ones would surely run on any graphics card with the help of DOSbox and ScummVM/ResidualVM.

Also, someone already mentioned it, but you forgot Labyrinth from your list:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labyrinth:_The_Computer_Game

As for the answer to your question, The Secret of Monkey Island is the best adventure from them.
The original game, not the remake.
Fine, fine, if I have to be more precise, I have completed my collection of "some LucasArts adventure games and all Double Fine remakes of LucasArts adventure games" that are available on GOG, leaving Labyrinth out. :)

Same old, same old. It's to be expected, I think. :)

Austrobogulator: I haven't finished Labyrinth, Maniac Mansion, or Escape From Monkey Island yet, but from what I've played, this is my order:
Since you rank Zak so high, you probably will enjoy Maniac Mansion.
(EDIT: Oh, nevermind, I just noticed you started from least liked to most liked, so Zak is not as high on your list... well, then you may not enjoy Maniac Mansion as much as I thought, but who knows, maybe you will, you can never know until you try it.)

Oh, I've started playing MM a couple of times, I haven't gotten far though. It definitely does seem like I'd enjoy it as much as Zak though...

Regardless, I still plan on playing through it at some point (likely with a walkthrough on hand).

Although it is my favorite, I can see how flawed Maniac Mansion is, so I can't blame you if you don't enjoy it all that much. It's still an interesting game, if only to see the evolution of the SCUMM games.

Adventure games are a weird genre for me, I either love the game or hate it, there usually isn't an in between for me. That said, here's my short list.

1) Curse of Monkey Island
2) Sam and Max hit the road
3/4) Secret of Monkey Island
3/4) Grim Fandango
5) Escape from Monkey Island

9999) Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge

I haven't gotten around to Full Throttle yet.

I must be one of the few people who preferred Monkey Island 4 over Monkey Island 2. The obscure puzzles, cluttered inventory and the stupid ending ruined MI2 for me.
