dtgreene: There is one specific topic that, when I mention it, seems to have two properties that appear to be at odds:
1. It attracts a lot of people, many of whom disagree with what I am saying
2. It seems that some people are tired of that topic for some reason
Any way to make sense of it? (I'm not mentioning the topic here unless someone else brings it up.)
Why certainly. The easiest and most likely is to assume Group 1 and Group 2 do not overlap much.
In fact all controversial topics are just that: controversial. They will have significant audiences in favor or against specific positions AND a subset of those two as well of the neutral third parties will be tired of the controversy itself for any number of reasons.
Now taking the opportunity.
The reason PZM has jumped on you in this thread seems to me twofold:
1 - we regulars all know what issue you are active about, even if you are not mentioning it explicitly - therefore bringing the topic up in a meta fashion AND mentioning you are not mentioning it appears somewhat disingenuous. Kind of passive aggressive?
2 - I assume he finds it hard to believe you did not know the answer to "Any way to make sense of it?" already...
That said, we don't really know your age / maturity. We hardly really know anything about you. BUT the obvious importance you give the topic - given how singleminded you are on it - and how you define yourself socially (it seems to me) through it, I guess it is only natural you find anyone that does not really have interest in engaging the topic as strange.
It's always hard to grok that others have different priorities. I believe that's called Diversity and respecting it is difficult precisely because of lack of familiarity - without needing to assume malice.
As someone that can be quite singleminded about "topics" there's been a few times I felt like PMing you. Feel free to do so if you are still curious.
