CatherineBr: I am not quite sure how to go about it. I have tried AI (not for this, but just playing around), but I wouldn't know which AI to use, nor how exactly to set up the parameters.

It might work, or at least it might job more memories loose.

JunglePredator: I'd probably suggest https://labs.openai.com which is the chatgpt picture one... it's pretty simple to use & does good art... but costs $.

Basically you just describe, in as best detail as you can, the image you want.

"A screenshot from a 15 year old crpg where it's a puzzle focused around 4 pools of coloured liquid; one to the north, west, east & south. They should be in a cross formation.' Etc.

I haven't actually used it but have seen the results & some are near photo quality... but it can vary a lot.
Ah, if it costs money, then I can't use it.

The lakes weren't a puzzle, they were just some scenery. I think it was just something that these were just unusual enough to stick out in my mind, and as I said, I *think* there might be someone on the other side of the pools you had to see. Maybe not though.

While I am pretty sure it was a fairly old game, it could be a somewhat newer game, as there are several games that are mimicking older styles. I just can't think of what it would be.
Hey, I tried to look for you and I didn't find anything for sure. I might check again later...

I just wanted to leave few tips.

Try maybe these two lists (or similar ones):
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_role-playing_video_games:_1998_to_1999
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Video_games_with_isometric_graphics

Also - probably you know that - but you can search on specific sites if you do, for example:

site:gamefaqs.gamespot.com + what you wanna search for.

I used this site as an example on purpose, because I know they have lots of old walkthroughs dating way back and maybe would be beneficial to search with some specific query on site like this as the person might be describing it in walkthrough with similar words.

Good luck and I hope it could help.

Thanks, I will look through those lists, and see what I can find.

Edit: I looked through those links and nothing jumped out at me. I noticed that there were definitely some games missing (such as I didn't see Dark Sun: Shattered lands on the isometric listing), which sort of leads me to think that either I am completely misremembering the area or the game is a really obscure one that few people have heard of, let alone played.

I also tried a free AI art generator, but it didn't help. I am now wondering if there is a way to search google images by colors.... going to look into that.

Edit 2: Found the ability to search by color, but it is very limited, as I can only search by one color, and it only searches for images with that predominant color.

Well I dunno man...

Google suggest the lava pool in Septerra Core & while your description doesn't match anything in it & it's quite modern... Pillars Of Eternity is a very colourful game with lots of varied lighting. Best guesses.

I haven't played Septerra Core, but I have played Pillars of Eternity, though it was fairly recently that I did. I will check that out as I might not be remembering the time frame for me playing the game correctly (and thus the age of the game could be wrong as well)

Thanks.

Edit: This is not the image I am picturing, but it is interesting as it is in the set up I remember with the colors I remember: https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/eternitywiki/images/9/96/Ar_0806_searing_falls.jpg/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/1000?cb=20170201150438

However, in the image I am remembering, the pools were much larger and the red covered most of the screen, with a slight bump that suggested an incline/that the pools were on a slight hill.

Told you it was colourful. :-D))

And... I think I missed that in my play through. :'-(

Yeah, I looked at the map and was like 'I don't remember this' and then it started coming back. As I was looking through the individual location images I was like 'hmm... okay I don't remember this.... nor this... wait a minute, I remember this! and this! and this!'.

I think I do remember those pools and for all I know that may be what I am looking for, getting mixed up in my mind with other games, but it just didn't have that 'eureka!' feeling when I found it.

and yeah, it is colorful. I like colorful games :) There are too many who think that making everything variations of one color is the way to go :D

I'm glad i'm not alone, I have memories of playing some Games I can't remember the names of,
Movies i've seen that I can't remember the names of, Anime that I just can't remember.

Heck, I have memories of Mighty Max, & it's a great show, but last I heard it was lost in time.

Theres been Movies I wanna see again, but I heard they were lost in time as well.

It just sucks. Especially like in the Simpsons, where you remember the Episodes,
but you remember the Originals were a lot different then how they are presented Today,
& you know your right, because you see glimpses of them in other Episodes.

Remastered Episodes, or changes made, don't really help our Nostalgias. lOl.

Kinda like how I remember Resident Evil, the original, not Director's Cut,
& it had that earie sound effect or music playing in the background as your
venture into the halls as you try to search for clues, & then Zombies start
moaning & making that crunching noise anytime they bite you. I can't find
that earie sound, or earie background music anywhere Online.

And your right, those memories don't go away, they just stick to you like a sore thumb.
You want to find them online, because they are great memories of the past, & you don't
want to forget about them especially as time goes by the memories start slipping, but
deffinately stay in your head.

Yeah, I will be nearing sleep and remember part of a story I read. Not characters, but just general actions or snippets. Or I will be watching a movie and go 'I remember this'. The last time it happened, I remembered a scene where the detective was called and people thought they were involved with the case, because no one knew why this detective was called. The detective insisted there was no connection to the person. The solution turned out to hinge on a rolodex.

I found that one because I was rewatching Murder She Wrote. So, thankfully that one was solved, because it kept coming back and I couldn't find anything online to fit what I remembered (I couldn't even remember whether the detective was male or female)

Most of the content I can't remember watching ends up being
that i've only seen it once or had an original airing that I just
remember being different from how it is now.

Like South Park, I feel like the original episodes got lost in time.
I don't remember the original episodes being so dull, & boring,
I remember a lot going on in them, & the original opening being
very different then it is now, too.

But I can't find the original episodes I remember watching anywhere.

It is possible that Streaming had just gotten them mixed up,
but i've got them on DVD, & even DVD doesn't have it correct
either. So I dunno.

A lot of times I know my memory will 'clean up' things. Like I don't remember Dark Sun being so grainy, but it must have been. So, my memories of it basically made it look better than it was (but since I played it at the time when that was graphics standard, it didn't stand out against them) Just like I remember morrowind with almost Skyrim type graphics, even though it was done a long time before, and so the graphics were not as advanced.

I also have had times where I had 'elevated' things because I watched/played them at times when there wasn't much to compare them to, so trying to watch/play them again, after having more things to compare them to, shows all the flaws that I overlooked. There are some stories I can no longer read, because they just have so many flaws to them.

That is why I am not sure whether I have just completely misremembered the scene from that game, because I had little to compare it to at the time, and so elevated/cleaned it up in my mind, or if it just is from an obscure game, or if I am remembering snippets from multiple games, such as the four pool setup from Pillars, the colorful nature of the pools in Dark Sun, and then some other games that had yellowstone style hot springs in them, so I changed the colors to to those, and it all came together into one image that my brain insists comes from the same game :P
