RoboPond: BigBob is right though. Alot of Steam game forums have sub forums. You're thread was moved to the correct one. (I agree that should of been made clearer that it was moved and not deleted.) You then created the same thread again and got a warning, which again was correct as it was seen as spam.

There might be posts about Civ V in the general forum, but you were asking a technical support question and not having a general discussion about the game. So you should of posted it in the 'Community Support' sub forum and not 'General Discussions where you did post it.
Thank you for saying what I meant to had I worded it better. And I agree they should have a rule on posting in the proper subforums if that is part of their rule set. Nice find with the common troubleshooting thread information as well.

He might start Raging.
Raging about what though? Games?

BigBobsBeepers: Then you need to unlearn that beahvior and learn the correct one, which is rwading each forum's rules and posting to the proper subforum in each game's forum. They are listed on the right hand side in a blue box.

Once at a game forum you still need to follow each one's rules as each forum has different rules. Some game's forums might allow everything in the main forum, and some might not.

It is not on them to hand hold each user but the user's responsibility to read the stickied rules and post in the proper subforums.

OldFatGuy: Oh for fucks suck. Just a Steam fanboy who blames every problem on the user. Probably didn't even look at the screenshot. Just kneejerk stupid reactgion to blame the user. Go fuck yourself.
No need for that attitude. You're wrong and too stupid to understand why. Perhaps you need to get off the internet for a bit, cool down and then come back to re-read what we're saying.

Um, WTF is the point of a general forum for a specific game?

OldFatGuy: […] While on the topic of Civilization, I was wondering if anyone else had the same experience as me with the series. I started with Civ II (never did play the original Civ or Civ I). I loved it (except I hated how the AI would move a settler right into the middle of "my" territory and start cities that used to drive me nuts) and played it and played it and played it.

Then Civ III came out. And there was no nostalgia factor keeping me at Civ II. I absolutely loved Civ III. Lord only knows many hours I played that. Plus, it "fixed" the problem i mentioned with Civ II by introducing expanding borders.

Then Civ IV came out and again, I keep an open mind, do not swear "nothing can be better than 3" and sure enough fall in love with 4. I absolutely love Civ IV, most especially with the BTS add-on. The number of hours I've played and continue to play that is off the charts.

Then Civ V came out and again I keep an open mind. But for some reason that I still can't explain, it never grabbed me and kept me. According to the Steam clock, I've played it 7 hours, which means probably about 10-12 total since I sometimes play offline (my ISP is fast, but not reliable LOL. I lose it sometimes). I must have tried at least a dozen times to "get into it" the way I did 2, 3, and 4 yet I just couldn't. And today I wanted to try yet again.

The weird thing is as I said I can't really explain why, and that really bothers me. But I was wondering if anyone else had the same or similar experience with Civ V. I'm asking because I often read comments from others talking about how much better Civ V is than Civ IV so it must be something to do with me.
Can't remember the first one (maybe played or not, it was a long time ago) but I definitely lost months of my life the Civ II. I actually only played III and IV after purchasing them here, recently. (My old system was too slow to play them, so I have yet to dive in. Just at the critical point of about twenty turns my laptop would fail to keep the turns timely, so it was not fun.): Having said that, I thought Three was great (but the stacks-of-doom sucked); and I am still deciding whether to dive into Four properly (lots of learning to map out the optimum technological path). I'm undecided about the interface: it may keep my interest. In the meantime I've actually started Galactic Civilizations instead.

Now Five has a heap of new stuff in it. (I haven't played it since it isn't available here).

But Civ 2 was the best, I thought. I hated the ugly rail tracks, but the game was near perfect.

scientiae: Um, WTF is the point of a general forum for a specific game?.
It varies, but normally anything left over that doesn't fit the dedicated subforums Questions from players on gameplay (if no gameplay sub), questions from potential customers asking players is it worth buying ... etc. It's also the most likely spot for the devs to post stickied news items regarding game updates.

That would make sense if there were a lot of questions that fell outside of the bounds of the specific subfora. I can't see that ever happening when technical issues have been removed, after all what is left? Lots of "should I buy this game if I don't like X?" questions? (That's rhetorical, don't answer that.)

I suppose it would have some utility as a placeholder to grant some whitespace around the other subfora. But if there isn't any usage of the parent forum, it's just an extra step to get to the subforum (and an opportunity for the cognoscenti to bait the noobs, as in the OP).

Ockham's razer would have it removed.
