Wow thanks for the suggestions guys! A lot of them.

Most of em seems to be point and click adventure games, on which I'm not good at. I have Gabriel Knight 1 Anniversary, and I cannot even pass the early puzzles.

Contradiction seems to be a perfect fit on LA Noire/In the First Degree. And it's dirt cheap!

I'll check out Cognition, Her Story, Last Express (seems interesting) and Golden Gate Killer (probably fit on what I really looking for).

About Law and Order, I searched around google and found Telltale series on the franchise, are those good too?

I'll take a look at em all anyway.

Again, thanks!
Now this game is REALLY rare. I'm really interested in this. I remember looking it up awhile ago.

In the First Degree was hell to find (had the CD ROM and played the game when I was a kid, that's how I know about this title).

But Golden Gate Killer is IMPOSSIBLE. And based on a real case I suppose. That would be sweet.

I found a copy at the "grey area" website but not sure how to download it.

In the meanwhile I'll get busy with Contradiction. Golden Gate Killer most likely a hell to get it running on modern system anyway.

Yeah, most of what you're going to find are point-and-clicks with this kind of theme, as you said, the "pure" investigative thing or whatever isn't very common, they mostly seem to be either niche titles or police simulators.
I haven't played it yet, but maybe try The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker?

Edit: And the recent release by the same company:

Honestly, I'd try just looking up FMV games in general. Don't ask me why, but most of the games with what you're looking for often use FMV.
Re-edit: Oh, yeah. After looking up some of these myself, you definitely need to try just poring through what FMV games are out there. A good chunk of them lurch in the direction you're looking for.

Wowie!!! I don't even know there're such games on Steam.

Not exactly what I'm looking for. But they are dirt cheap anyway. And the Doctor Dekker seems to be the closest thing to In the First Degree.

Thanksss!!!

I still have the retail CD here and might try it.

My personal suggestion would be: "The Painscreek Killings". All about collecting clues and figuring out what happened.

Edit: Yes, it is not that easy but completely possible. The game is refusing to run on 64bit so you need to have either a virtual machine with a 32bit win installed or dosbox with win 3.11 or similar. IN both cases the gae worked fine - I just tried. Unfortunately I only own the German version though.

exorio: I'm looking for games like LA Noire or the old Win 3.1.1 game called "In the First Degree"

I had my eyes locked on Missing since January (in Memoriam) but looking at the gameplay videos it's more like puzzle game instead of LA Noire/In the First Degree style (interrogation, collecting evidence, etc). And the game is really really hard to find anywhere.

I did play Sherlock Holmes games, but turn out it's also not quite what I'm looking for. I've played Police Quest series too back then, but this is closer to Sierra's classic adventures.

I'm fine with older games, that is why I'm in GOG in the first place BTW.

Any suggestion? Thank you in advance!
Only on Steam, but Murdered: Soul Suspect is somewhat similar with investigating and putting clues together. I loved it. You have to rebuild crime scenes and collect information and clues to solve quests. I highly recommend it if you liked L.A. Noir.

Thanks for testing it out. Appreciate it bro.

I do have old Windows XP machine but I haven't found a copy of the game yet.

I think what really clicked with me on LA Noire is the interview and interrogation part; guessing what the body language/facial expression tells me. If it's on 3D graphics oftentime they're so bad. And I don't think there're no other games can match LA Noire's ultra detailed facial animation. They really craft this part to excellence.

FMV works better even with low production value (like In The First Degree) since the actors were filmed anyway. Sometimes ending up cheesy but they do have acting skills.

Had no one recommended Blade Runner yet? It has quite a branching storyline (plus which characters are human and replicant is determined randomly at the start of the game), a lot of time is dedicated to collecting evidence, there is also Voigh-Kampf test during interrogation - that is as close to LA Noire "guess if character is lieing by their expression" as it could be.

Yeah I played Blade Runner back then. But it falls into point and click adventure category. Just like most other point and click adventure game I can't pass the early segment of the game lol.

I play it out of curiosity since a lot of people praised the game soo much. I'm sure it's an awesome game for point and click fans. But not for me.

PixelHunt: I loved Contradiction - Spot the Liar! and I think you might too.
That was great, played with my mom!!

I liked "her story" quite much and recommend "Murdered soul suspect", surprisingly good thriller detective ghost story.

Also the quantic Dream games are very interesting, Nomad soul and Fahernheit (indigo prophecy) here and Heavy Rain, beyond two souls, Detroit become human on ps3/4

Shenmue is all about detective work, especially the first, second a bit less iirc both just got remastered for Pc

Yeah a lot of people actually recommended me Heavy Rain. But I don't have PS3/4.

Detroit looks awesome too.

Quantic seems to be all over the facial and body language department. Their games are mostly better or at least on par with LA Noire of body language and facial expression subtleness.
Just discovered this one - The Murder Mystery Machine

Well, it's not yet released, but you might be interested, so you can put in your wishlist.

Desmight: Her Story

One of the best games I've played!
But is it a game?

supplementscene: But is it a game?
It can only exist as a videogame. You can't make a movie, a book or a tv series out of it. It can only exist by player interaction. So yeah, it's a game.
