hey, i need help in searching of an old pc game came out around 2000.
the plot of the game is that in the beginning of the game your character is sent back to the prehistoric era from the future and through out the level he travel back to the future. each level is in a different time period.

It's a long shot, but you're not perhaps thinking of Outcast are you? Though that isn't time travel, but a vague recollection might disguise it as such.

Smannesman: Time Commando?
That looks like a lot of fun, looks like the gameplay is sort of like Little Big Adventure or Silver.

Well it's the one that immediately came to mind for me, but anything is possible.
But time has not been kind to early 3D, so it might just have seemed amazing at the time.
Like the original Alone in the Dark, that looks hilariously terrible now but I was very impressed with it at the time.

It's more like a very linear action game.
You go from left to right fighting enemies until you get to a portal that takes you to the next level.

Not sure if Time Commando was the game? Your description sounds similar to the Journeyman Project. The original version was a little different from the anniversary edition being offered now. Not sure exactly the differences, but in the original version, your first mission was to the prehistoric era and then you bounced from one time period to another on subsequent missions.

Hardly a surprise, seeing as it was developped by the same studio. :)
