Its also kind of "Pay per getting advertisement Emails". So I didnt want to call it fully "free".

You can claim Tropico 4 then immediately go into your account to remove the subscriptions that you don't want.
GOG isn't going to claw back the game.

I know. And I did that. But I still got an advertisement Email. I think they changed their scheme so that they queue ad Emails during the few seconds that it takes to disable the settings.
I had no issues. I snagged my free copy of Tropico 4 and then checked my email. I only had two emails:

"Congratulations on your new game!"

and

"Free items added to your GOG.com library."

That's a very small price for a free game. Thank you Startrail for the helpful posts!

EDIT: Removing the two "subscriptions"' took less than thirty seconds.

You don't pay a thing. That's not how any of this works.

Also, FWIW, there's also another email that came before it. In this case, advertising this giveaway,. But the title also states this is "Giveaway #1", which implies there will be a "Giveaway #2". No telling how long this would last, but I'd expect until the 10th of September. I reckon 3 giveaways in total to squeeze in there. There's time.

All that would've been worth knowing had you maintained your subscription. Essentially though, there is a net zero impact to your wallet in itself. Not even negative.

Or you can use the script by TheDcoder, that automatically and instantly clears the Partners subscription setting for you when you click the CLAIM button. There is a thread here somewhere that provides the info and link for that script.

If the email was from GOG, then I don't think it was related to that setting, as that is for GOG's partners.

GOG have recently changed something, so that you get an extra email or two when you claim a game. I've also gotten it when grabbing a demo, which is silly as all heck.

The cost/price is time and attention.

IIRC it enables two buttons. One of them is likely for GOG.

Yes.

I got the "GIVEAWAY #1" Email a few minutes after I already had claimed it... Also quite silly I guess.

It's the same amount as showing up here to the forums. How is this an actual issue?
Amazon Prime Gaming:
- LEGO The Lord of the Rings
- Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor - Game of the Year Edition

No idea about that, probably because I already have the main notification setting enabled. I just have the Partners setting and the Wishlists setting both disabled (not selected).

So all that changes for me when I grab a free game from GOG is the Partners setting, which gets immediately deselected by TheDcoder's script.

The only reason I have the Wishlists setting deselected, is because I was getting too many emails from GOG, no doubt because I have so many items on my wishlist.

I do want notifications about free games, great redeemable discounts and new releases.

I don't need to be told about something I know I just bought or about games they think I should get, that often includes many games I already have at GOG.

GOG should recognize I am a great supportive customer, and not pester me with unnecessary things. I know what I want and have bought.

I just saw the news as well! Thanks for this :) Was procrastinating purchasing the Lego Lord of the Rings and now I'm glad I did :D

Straygods GOG code is also free with an Amazon Prime Subscription!

@Zrevnur, understood on the rationale! Just to let you know that based on the criteria for the list I made for this post, it'll meet the criteria for free :) I think all of GOG giveaways from I think 5 years ago onwards have that requirement of newsletter signups. No worries on your view. I was just curious, not interested in starting flame wars here.

As to the rest replying to Zrevnur, it's fine if Zrevnur feels that it's not free. I was just curious about his criteria :) Please keep this thread on topic thanks!
