The main advantages of using the scripts instead of a manual installation are the fully automated process, the better iintegration to your environment, and the persistent saved games & config (they won’t be lost on game uninstallation).
Uninstallation's easy as well -- just delete the game folder :-)
Well, my first distro (after SLS) was Slackware, so I guess doing stuff manually at times still comes quite naturally -- at least I no longer have to compile everything I want to install!
EDIT: +1 for all the good work you're doing though! :-)
