It’s time to take a closer look at the famous episodic graphic adventure game developed by Dontnod Entertainment. Released in 2015, Life is Strange tells the story of Max Caulfield, an 18-year-old photography student who discovers that she has the ability to rewind time.
Did you know?
· The episodic nature of the game was as much a budgetary choice as it was a creative choice. During the beginning of the game’s development, the French studio Dontnod Entertainment could only muster a 15-person team, meaning development had to move at a slower pace.
· Themes like human memory and identity are present throughout many of the studio’s games (e.g. Vampyr). Narrative-driven and emotionally challenging titles are considered Dontnod Entertainment’s specialty.
· Hannah Telle provided the voice of Max Caulfield in the English version of the game. Another popular actress Ashly Burch (Horizon Zero Dawn) also auditioned for the role but was cast as Chloe Price, Max’s best friend, instead.
The soundtrack
The game is renowned for its nostalgic score composed by Jonathan Morali, the frontman of the French rock band Syd Matters. It won many awards, including the best soundtrack at the 2015 PlayStation Universe awards, with the song “To All of You” remaining the most memorable.
