already wrote to the support and at the german forums, maybe somebody knows a solution.
Today I bought the first part of Knights of the Old Republic, but the game won't even launch. I already tried it with Compatibility Mode for XP (both Servicepack 2 and 3) and launched it as an admin, but nothing. Neither the Desktop-icon nor the launcher will do. The 'Play' button on the launcher briefly looks like it responded, and the counter for how many minutes I play even starts ticking, but nothing opens, not a single window.

Hello. If you have Windows 7, you could try doing the following:

Go to where you installed Knights of the Old Republic
You see the swkotor.exe file we messed with earlier? You should also see a file called swconfig.exe in the same folder. Open it up
Change the resolution to your native resolution or the highest resolution available
Uncheck V-Sync
Uncheck ‘Enable Hardware Mouse’
Check ‘Disable Movies.’ Don’t worry; this only disables the intro logo movies for LucasArts and Bioware, so you won’t miss out on any cutscenes in the actual game
Save all your changes
Double click the shortcut you made before

Not sure if it works on Windows 8 or 10.

Unfortunately, that didn't do anything for me.
(And yes, I have Windows 7)

I just played through the game on Win7 64 bit, so I know it will work. Where do you have the game installed? I install all my games on a separate game drive. I'd recommend not installing in Programs or Programs(x86).

Did you install through Galaxy? If so, try installing manually, which is how I did it. I ran the installer as admin and didn't even bother with compatibility. The game worked fine with only a couple freeze-ups.

I got the game to start by deleting atioglxx.dll (tip from elsewhere)
Now it starts, but the loading screen after the Character Creation doesn't go through and then it crashes.

Alright, the game runs now, after deactivating Frame butter Effects. The only problem I have left now: The intro was skipped. Because of *Disable Movies* ? If so, can I safely turn it on again? Would be a big atmosphere killer if I couldn't have a single cutscene.
