Now I know that just because a game is released is far from complete. All in all though, now problems throughout the whole game can be dealt with.

Most games are treated like Early Access, even if they're not and they've already put out say version 1.0. This has been going on for years, though - since at least Morrowind.

And it's only getting worse.

It's been like this for years, as games get more and more complex in how they operate in 3D and have huge open-worlds. And also true specially in RPG's w/ multiple choices, permutations, and more.

So, yeah - if you don't like Update City and having to downloads lots of GB's of space often and then also having to have lots of GB's of space open - you might want to wait for dev's and pub's to announce they are totally done w/ their DLC run, expansion run, and plan to do no more updates for said game....and that they say they're onto the next game.

Heck, Cyberpunk 2077 is still getting patches - and likely after the next expansion, will probably get lots more too.

CMiq: Not really an issue, as I see it.
I guess (I do not look other customers' profiles just in case they may not have intentionally left them public) that you must not have over a dozen hundred games on your GOG library yet, as otherwise you might be able to see how someone with limited time to play games might prefer to use that time on actually playing games rather than waste a major portion of that time on checking up which of their countless games may have received a new patch.

Even if we all had the time to test every update for our games in the order they are being released, it would be a lot of cumulative time and bandwidth totally wasted on something which could be easily avoided almost entirely by GOG actively turning any older installers that turn out be the last versions to be compatible with an older OS or the least buggiest release before the next major content update as unsupported extras, because then it wouldn't be so necessary to run a download script so often and the customers could spend the saved time on clearing their backlog.

As the things are currently, the only alternative for devoting a lot of time time and effort to keeping up with the patch releases is to buy enough disk capacity to be able to leave a download scrip running 24/7 and keep everything until one can find time to start testing updates in reverse order for each game as that would at least allow them to not test most of the older installers as long as the latest version still works with any OS that game was claimed to be compatible with when it was released here, but if GOG would simply ensure that even years later anyone could still download all the major milestone versions for their games, not only would most of their customers need a lot less hot and cold storage capacity to be able to obtain the current and future milestone versions, everyone who for example only recently bought NMS could still obtain the last patch for every major content update for that game.

The brute force solution to download and keep everything also requires a lot more of hot and cold storage capacity than what would be needed if GOG would make it easier to for us to obtain only all the relevant versions for our games and quite likely the money for that capacity would be taken from one's gaming budget, so it would make a lot of sense for GOG to do their best to make it unnecessary for us to leave a download script running all the time.

LegoDnD: I've never once concerned myself with cutting-edge releases. My most recent purchase was Skyrim, Dishonored Trilogy, and Chaosbane.
Yeah, good luck with Chaosbane.

Warhammer, Chaosbane.

First of all, it has an intro that lasts.... I dunno, a long time. I mean... a LONG TIME. I literally hit every key on the keyboard, on the controller, and on my mouse... literally every single key... trying to stop and skip the intro and there was no way I could find. Strike one.

Then after waiting all that time and watching the entire intro, a screen comes up that says "Hit a key on your keyboard or controller to select your default device" or something like that. I hit a button on the controller, the screen refreshed, and then nothing. Pressing every key on the keyboard, mouse, and/or controller resulted in nothing. Absolutely nothing. And before anyone asks, nothing wrong with my controller. I used it in other game before this particular game yesterday and after this particular game yesterday... controller works fine. Strike two.

Since no key on the keyboard, mouse, or controller would give me a menu with an option like quit or cancel, I had to ctrl-alt-enter to task manager to quit the game. Loaded the game again, AGAIN waited through this long, long... LONG intro, AGAIN hitting every goddamned key on the keyboard and mouse and controller but nothing stops the long intro. Then when the screen game up asking me to select my default device this time I pressed a key on the mouse and then the same startup screen appeared to pick my character as before but this time it did recognize my input device and allowed me to select my starting character. So that's when I decided to quit the game and read the manual.... and again, there must be a way to end the game but I again hit every key on the keyboard and mouse and nothing... Ctrl-alt-enter to taskbar to end the game. Strike three.

Not giving this company my money for this game, or any other game, ever again.
From a post of mine in July when I purchased Chaosbane.

And to the OP, I'd be curious to know if you've ever bought a game on release that didn't have lots of updates? The fact this is the norm in the industry is our (consumers) fault, but it is the norm.

Thanks for the heads-up. A long opening cutscene before access to options is also my first red flag, but picking my character only ferried in more problems. Video performance is fine, but every light-source is a glitchy square-shaped blinking mess of seizure-puke. Mouse-based controls were by far the most critical issue: my character spends an entire extra second of running before she's able to halt when I unclick and targeting enemies who move faster than my mouse feels exactly as intuitive as shooting feral ghouls in Fallout 3 without V.A.T.S. What sense is there in playing as an archer in a game where mobs invades my personal space?

The story isn't much better; all player characters are veterans fresh out of a war where we earned the throne for somebody who looks like a villain in a Z-Grade fantasy movie even though the narrator is kissing his boots. The crap I describe above happens as I rush to his defense on the eve of coronation, but the out-of-sync cutscene (As in, they all take several seconds after the audio ends for the colorless motion comic visuals to catch up; this must be a sign of bad optimization.) railroads me into being too late to stop an evil witch from cursing him and piecing out. Most irritating of all, this seg-ways into the kind of conflict that I most despise: law enforcement finds me the only conscious individual surrounded by a paralyzed (via green lightning) proto-king and his dead guards. The obvious logical conclusion to all this arrowless and clearly magical carnage is that I did it, with my non-magical bow & arrows. My wizardly co-veteran defends me as if he isn't a better suspect and the dirty cop folds like paper.

Having suffered 3 of these cutscenes by now, I was more than happy to quit and request a refund right away.
