GOG has made a change to its refund policy, simplifying the process and letting you get your money back even if you've played the game, as long as you request the refund within 30 days.

Previously, GOG's policy was a bit stricter than the likes of Steam's, as refunds were only guaranteed if the game hadn't been downloaded and played. Refunds could be appealed for other reasons, but not liking the game wasn't one of them. Now you don't have to worry about any of that.

If you've played the game, it's fine—you can still get a refund. It doesn't matter how long you've played for, either. Since most games can theoretically be completed in a month, the new policy seems pretty open to abuse, but GOG will be keeping an eye on refunds to make sure it's not being exploited.

"We're monitoring the effects of the current update to make sure no one is using this policy to hurt the developers that put their time and heart into making great games," the FAQ reads. "We may refuse refunds in such individual cases. We'd also let you know about any future adjustments in the voluntary Refund Policy in advance."

The new refund policy is active now.

I previously stated that it was 'no questions asked,' but GOG has clarified that it will treat each refund request individually and ask customers why they are seeking one.

Request one within 30 days, even if you've played the game. NO PROBLEM!

Steam: 14 days and can't touch it for more than 2 hours...

I just hope no one abuses it.

Of course, customers should not see this as an excuse to treat every game as a Demo, as I am sure they will get short shrift if they start trying to get a refund on too many games ... only logical.

I am guessing that so long as you appear genuinely disappointed with a game, and have been sensible about it, all will be fine.

GOG make me give up of steam, here you have good support, the possibility of playing a game without open the client, here we have a DRM-Free paradise and i like to see when people play fair in such a free space and i hope this still that way.

There is such a thing as too generous. Honestly, I think their decision is an incredibly stupid one. They need some form of rules and restrictions to stop people abusing it.

I'm a pirate. Yes, yes, that bad person everyone loves to hate. I used to pirate games like there's no tomorrow. And, as a pirate, I see absolutely no way this can be abused.

GOG staff aren't born yesterday either. If they see someone is going nuts, asking too many refunds, they'll just send him far far away, in the nicest way possible.

Besides, no matter how hard you fight piracy, you will never win that battle. :D GOG games will be pirated one way or another. But this is a nice move on their behalf. It may just benefit GOG in so many ways.

Look at steam, with all the money they make, they can't even do something like this for their users. :/
