the.kuribo: How about being a laser-equipped lobster fighting against other crustaceans? Hell yes, Neo Aquarium.

Or maybe being a mosquito, tormenting an innocuous Japanese family? Bring it on, Mr. Mosquito.

Oh yes, and in a post-apocalyptic world where mankind has run its course and domesticated dogs roam free and rule the streets of the cities... there's Tokyo Jungle.

The Japanese actually have produced a number of these sorts of animal perspective games, I think there's quite a few more if one goes searching. I'm fairly certain I've come across quite a number of very interesting looking titles like this while browsing old used game stores in my neighborhood.
Lol, those first two are completely nuts - thanks for making me aware of them! I think I'll have to get my hands on an old 2nd hand playstation 2 sometime

A cat simulator would be nice too. One that gives you points and achievements for waking up the neighborhood at night and fighting other animals like dogs.
Smannesman recommended Catlateral Damage, which is pretty entertaining. Basically you try to knock down as many items as you can making as big a mess as possible. And lets not forget Alley Cat

LoboBlanco: I looooved THIS ONE.

Specially because of the main character.
Awesome, I've never seen that version before. The version I played I remember as being distinctly more, pink.

Wishbone: Then there's Sleepwalker. You play as a dog in that.
That reminds me of that infuriating level in Earthworm Jim 2, with the suicidal mutant puppy

What about Rise of the Triad? Woof woof!
This is the best thread.

While I love Sly Cooper, I don't think it's what the Original Poster had in mind.
Amaterasu from Okami is a bit more doglike, but still not terribly domestic. A fantastic game though.

Boney from Mother 3 is slightly more on-track.

I barely find Parappa to count, though I believe he is intended to be a dog of some kind.

I should play Dog's Life.

Ahem

Matewis: The only rabbit I've ever played with was this one:  rabbit.jpg
There was also a game for the commodore 64:

I'd buy an RPG where you play as a Dog, especially if it has a "Human Leg Humping" skill tree and a TES style skill upgrade system- the more you use it the better you get at it.

And classes...fighting dog, hunting dog, racing dog, lap dog, show dog etc.

Someone do it please.
There is a strange game about a CIA coup where you play Mossadeghs Cat

I find myself deeply disturbed/scared by that art style for some reason

Matewis: that there aren't more games where you play as a dog, like in Dog's Life.

*snip*
Yep, Dog's Life is a great game. I played it years ago on a friends PS2, gotta grab a copy for my collection. :)

There are a few other games in which you play as an animal like:

Predator Simulator
Tokyo Jungle (PS3)
WolfQuest

I don't know, I think it might be the idea of seeing it animated that unsettles me for some reason, as if it's not supposed to be moving.
Ooh, I found a great contender: http://www.buttsniffinpugs.com/
Perhaps I could create a game based on the adventures of my pigdog. It could be the dog version of the Giana Sisters where he switches between the two (pig and dog) in order to proceed through levels.
