Just woken up earlier and I seen Itch is down due to Funko using crappily AI branding protection software and sending takedown to registarar. Cannot updating my games there now. Sucks. Anyone on gog forums hear anything more on this? What do you thinking? I hoping it goes back up soon\ I have games to play! In the meantime I wait and play my already downloaded games but I feel I needing a drink and a maybe a hug. Ahh!

I don't know if this explanation is accurate, but they make it sound like an AI sent a complaint to another AI which took down itch.io?

It goes something like this: Funko, makers of awful souless tat use an hallucinating automaton to sent copyright claims. One of these gets sent to the registar of Itch.io.

The registar, instead of having someone on hand to process this, automatically assumed yes to the request, and booted Itch.io off the public network for the time being.

Incompetence all around; one can only pray that Funko and the Registar are legally sent packing to the stone ages for this.

Bad actors will do that kind of thing. My ex-hosting provider, Hetzner, did the same a couple years ago and forced me to take down all of my Web services after a single bogus claim by a copyright troll. They sided with the troll immediately, thus against their legit paying customer.

I guess I won’t have to explain why they are no longer my hosting provider…

Unless I missed something, the registrar that should be avoided here is 1API. Unless you like having your website taken down by bogus claims. EDIT: 1API is their current registrar, maybe it’s not the one who took their domain down in the first place.

Itch must have lost quite a bit of money after being down for so long, so I hope they manage to extract some form of compensation.
