Discovered itch.io client. It's a lot like GOG but GOG client is much simpler and not as cluttered. But even itch.io has user profiles, why can't GOG get user profiles? Also itch.io game selection is pretty meh, it's like a dedicated steam greenlight/indie repository.

Still I rank:

1) Steam (selection, limited drm, fully featured)
2) GOG (no drm, client is basic but easy to use, and certain games not on steam but only on GOG)
3) itch.io (looks promising like GOG but GOG despite being a beta is a lot more matured in feel)

What do you guys think of itch.io?
Things you wish GOG had that itch.io has?
Do you care about user profiles? I wouldn't mind an itch.io type profile setup on GOG. It could just be my OCD over petty things like that.

Puns aside: My ranking is:
1) Humble (cheap prices, usually will include both a DRM-free copy and a Steam copy of game)
2) GOG (DRM-free games, lots of goodies, and a large assortment of older games
3) Steam
4) ???There are other places?

The site is good (for what it does), the client is a bit arse.

I'm trying to download Gone Home since the day they gave it away and the download always fails for no reason.
(yeah, yeah, I know, eventually I'll download from the browser, I'm just testing the client for now)

And as you've said, yes, the client is kinda cluttered, as is mimicking the website, but manages to be a bit slower so... yeah.
Also, I want to be able to choose the install directory of the bloody program.

Don't care about profiles though, I rarely fill the things (not to say never) with any useful info. Just a internet nick, some pretentious or trying-to-be-funny phrase.

What I wish for GOG that the Itch has? Moar games.

Bottom line, the client offers barely any benefits outside of managing the library and game updates, as I think all clients should be to be honest. Is a bit rough, but it is serviceable.

So GOG's original employees made this system. Then when they left, none of the remaining employees had any idea how to change anything. So the Galaxy team is just trying to shove all of this code they don't understand into a client to make it work as a standalone, portable website.

GOG also doesn't outsource. Anyone they hire to work on the site will be required to move to Poland and be in their offices full time. You put all of these together and you can see why they're kind of behind when it comes to technology.

A lot of games that are available DRM-free on GOG aren't DRM-free on Humble. A LOT.

Yes, but this is for ME we're talking about, here. There's also A LOT of games I'm not even remotely interested in on this website.

Hopefully you meed Moar Good Games™ rather than let's fill GOG catalog with all the greenlight, bundle, ea, itch.io trash available as, while later option would double GOG catalog in heartbeat, 99 out of 100 of those games would be complete trash. I have hard time finding good games on Itch and most of the ones that could be good are already or are in process of getting into other stores. Number of Itch.io exclusive good games is probably less that I have fingers in one hand.

You can prefer whatever you want to. I just had a problem with the word "usually", because it's not true. "Partially" would've been the better choice. ;)

Quick test:
In the Humble store I can filter games by DRM, when I choose "DRM-Free" it results in 58 pages of games. When I select "Steam" it shows 216 pages of games.

Yep, "partially" seems ok. Perhaps even a little optimistic. ;-)

I've tried games from them, but i wasn't the one who purchased them, so never used the store myself.
But yeah they have a few games i wouldn't mind eg Book of Demons Dungeon of Zaar and so on.
No idea what a user profile is, so err maybe :P
