Jungle_Falcon: I do get what you are saying, you are right. The thing which discourages me is that they are not held to account once hou hand over your hard earned. Maybe it's completely unworkable I'd like views on this though projects just go dark sometimes without any sort of repercussion.
This is the inherent risk. You shouldn't pledge anything on any kickstarter project if it's going to be too uncomfortable for you to lose it. That's why it's important to research the developer you're planning on backing to see if you think they're trustworthy. And/or just consider the money as 'kissed goodbye' and don't think any more about it - and if you get a game out of it, then you scored a win.

On a side note, if a project is not funded by the target date, you don't get charged anything. So you can't lose any money until the kickstarter campaign is successful. Which seems a weird way to put it...

Timboli: Thanks all of you for responding.

GROOT gave a pretty good solution, but OneFiercePuppy deserves an honorable mention, plus some others.
Haha, just at this moment, another thread pops up about Bloodstained, a kickstarter project, not delivering his promises about a DRM free beta on GOG. Such is life.

NuffCatnip: My experiences with kickstarter haven't been pleasant, all of the three games I backed and followed turned out to be trash.
Neither have mine but it's more of an issue with my tagged email address that they have being leaked and now gets lots of spam.

It was before the 2014 hack though:

https://www.cnet.com/news/kickstarter-hacked-user-data-stolen/

Not sure if just one of the projects just sold their list or if this was an earlier hack. Kickstarter staff refused to discuss the matter and just pointed me to their privacy policy.

I still suggest the platform though to folks.
We wouldn't have the CRPG resurgence we have right now without it, so yes obviously it was worth it.
If you give me £20k I will write a full post explaining all the ins and out of the platform. For and extra £5k I will show you the words early so you can test them for me. For another £5k I will even include your name somewhere in the post.

Disclaimer: I make no assurances that this will happen, but I sure as hell will take your money.
